Disc Brakes are putting a stop to cruzin'
I have used the search feature, but couldn't find my answer, so I am reaching out to you guys for help.
I am having problems finding new rotors for my 52 Hornet. I bought the car from my aunt several years ago after my uncle passed away. One of the modifications he did to the car was convert the front brakes to a disc setup. I have no idea if he made the conversion, or bought one. He had told me that all of the parts for all of the modifcations had come from a '76 Chrysler wagon. Other parts that I have replaced have matched that vehicle.
However, I am bumping into walls trying to replace the rotors. I have been able to find rotors, pads, and outer bearings the match all of the specifications except the correct size of the inner wheel bearing. I have found a wheel bearing that is the correct fit for the Hudsons spindle, but then it's outside diameter is too large for the rotor.
I have been to several good parts suppliers, and we have tried matching things up, but am still striking out.
Has anyone used a similar setup, or have any suggestions?
Also, my uncles name was Harold Hinshaw. He lived in Costa Mesa and was somewhat active with the local club chapters. If there is a chance that any of you in SoCal might remember my uncle, or know anything about the car, I would appreciate your input too.
Thanks in advance,
Terry

Try a place that specificaly sells bearings for either a cup that matches the bearing and rotor or a complete new set up. It is often the case in your situation that one is for a certain car and the other from another . We have a BEARINGS INCORPORATED store here that I go to . BUD0

Terry, If it is the LA BUD kit give him a call at 904-383 4566 in Fl.and he will help you. I have the kit but di not copy the inner bearing # when i installed them.
Hope this helps Rudy
BILL LA BUD shop # is 352-383 45660 -
If I understand you correctly ,a machine shop should be able to turn your new rotor bore out to fit the bearing. Providing the prevoius posters idea does'nt work out. He is correct most of the wheel bearings used to be sold as two parts.
Cup and Cone, that allowed one roller to fit several bore's. hope this helps,

I have a LaBuds system and he used the rotors from a Ford Granada if I am Not Mistaken. I will go to the garage in the morning and check the parts list he sent me. I'll look around here but I'm pretty ure it is in the glove compartment of the car.

Those disc conversions are a nice set up. I will also say that standard stepdown brakes work excellent if set up the way they are supossed to. Problem is many people don't do them properly (like in the manual).0

How very true , the standard for most cars, adjust till it drags and back off a little. Just ain't quite right on a Hudson. That's not to say I am good at it. I made the mistake of taking the pivot pin loose on the first one I worked on. Never did get it just right after that. Had to have my brother come and fix it.

besides Labud, there is also the pridmore kit, that uses dodge stealth or mitsubishi 3000 rotors and chevy S10 or mid 80's calipers.0

I cheked and Bill Labud did use rotors from a 1975-1979 Ford Granada/ Mercury Monarch. Calipers are from 1969 Camaro and 1969/1974 Nova.
Bearing races:
BCA #09195 (Pressed into the Rotor hub)
Bearing Races:
BCA #15245 (Pressed into the Rotor Hub)
I sent him my hubs and He sent them back ready to use.
Wheel Seals are:
National: #482253
These may or may not work for you, they are what Bill Labud sent me.
The last time I talked to Bill he said he was getting out of the brake business.
But he may have changed his mind.0 -

This great info since I'm finally getting ready to do this and prefer scrounging to kit'ing. But I was curious about two things. Any idea why the Chevy calipers? And what did he use for caliper brackets - were they custom pieces he made or was he able to reuse something else?0 -
Terry: Sorry to hear that your Uncle Harold passed. While living in California, I met him several times when I attended meets there.0

The Caliper brackets were custom made. I don't know if Bill made them or if he had them made. Mine were put on in about an hour and a half each side. But I am disabled and took my time. A decent mechanic should be able to do the swap in a couple of hours easy. You could call Bill LaBud, I've lost his phone # but it should be in the HET Roster. As for the Hudson brakes, I agree if right they are very good but then you get one like my car. I had Hudson experts trying to help me and none of us could get the car to stop straight. It would pull left one time then pull right the next time. I put Bill's kit on and, on the way back from Pigeon Forge, a cow jumped a ditch into the road in front of me. I hit the brakes HARD! It stopped straight as an arrow. I have no doubt I would have hit the cow or gone into the ditch had I had the Hudson Brakes...0

Meant to put these in with the other post don't know why they didn't load.
