What is this? Hudson Motor Car Co Key Tag?

Does anyone know what this is?

It is numbered on one side and reads "HUDSON MOTOR CAR CO."
The other side reads "TWENTY FIVE CENTS"

I found this in an old tool box. I am just curious as to what it was used for as I can not find any info online.

Thanks!

I think that was an old Hudson tool crib tag. When guys checked out a tool at the Hudson company (engineering dept.?) they would (I think) leave that tag with the guy in charge, to identify who had the particular tool. He would hang it on the hook that held the tool, in the crib. Anyway, I think that's the way it worked. I think the Club (and maybe Ken Poynter, specifically) would give those out as keepsakes and 20-year membership awards, before the Club actually had special award pins for this purpose.

  • What does the twenty five cents mean? Is that the amount you paid if the tool is not checked back in?

THAT WAS THE REPLACEMENT COST IF YOU LOST YOUR TOOL CHECK
  • How rare are these? I figured there would be several out there floating around.

There is at least one in AUS. I have the one given to my father in 1990 for his 20year membership.

    It is number 36421.

I was given one when I reached 20 years in the club. On one side it says "Penalty for Loss Twenty-Five Cents"; the other side says "Tool Check, 36456, Hudson Motor Car Company."

That matches close to the Austrailian one - I got my 20 year award in 1989.

I can't for the life of me remember who (maybe Ken Amman?)sold me a couple of those at the Pontiac '09 Centennial. He had several hundred of them on large key rings. Obviously left over from the company.
