308 Hornet Head gasket

My head gasket started weeping coolant on driver's side back corner. I replaced it about 10,000 miles ago... Is this strictly a retourqe issue or is it possibly blown. What are the tell tale signs of the latter ? What are your thoughts.. thank you...

    All heads with 7/16 bolts torque at 65 foot pounds and with 1/2 inch studs or bolts, 90 to 95 foot pounds. This is on 1948 to 1956 oil pressure engines. Splashers torque at 45 foot pounds. Walt.

    If you have a copy of Walt's Garage Hudson Tech Tips, pages 17 and 46,tells about Walt's preperation and torgue sequence. Walt's torque sequence is different than the torque sequence in the Hudson Manuals. He says it is his way and has never had a head gasket leak.

    If you do not have a copy I highly recommend getting both Vol 1 & 2. They are cram full of useful information and well worth the small cost.

    If you are having to do this every 10k miles, there might be another problem, other than torquing sequence. When you remove the head, put a straight edge on the face of the head AND the face of the block. If there is a discrepancy of more than a few thousandths, all the torque sequences in the world will not solve your problem. Either the head or the block can be re-faced or decked. Hopefully, if that is your problem, the problem will lie within the head and not the block.

    Also, stick a set of calipers on the thickness of the head. If it measures less than 1.970, replacement is most likely in order.

    i just put my head on the other day and was thinking... i was always used to doing torquing each bolt in proper sequence but in 10lb increments then oing up 10 more, but the manual said nothing about this. i wonder if this is a bad or good idea for these heads?
