I cannot get them to respond either0

We have two guys here in Australia that have paid for goods from K-Gap two years ago, they email and ring, one has had an answer and told his goods were on the way, but, they never arrive.
These guys are waiting to finish their retoration.0 -
I won't get in the middle of this on-going battle again - I gave it a try and got the usual butter job. I'm sorry that this problem keeps going - the Springs have been given the chance to do the right thing over and over again.
The one thing that bothers me to most is I've heard several HET members have dropped out of the club - I sincerly hope this isn't the case. This is NOT a club sanctioned operation - it is private enterprise. So please reconsider if you are thinking of dropping out.
The ultimate solution is obvious - the Springs cannot handle this excellent source of parts, so they should find a buyer and get out of the business. Find someone who can run it full time as a business, with perhaps other items for other cars to keep the cash flow coming in.

:cheer: I recently bought a length of rear window rubber for my 1950 Pacemaker Brougham. The supplier to K-GAP was a bit late supplying them, but I got the rubber in good order and K-GAP answered all my emails quickly and thoroughly, and I've been very pleased with their service. I don't know why others are having problems, but this is my only experience dealing with them.
I hope all these others can get things straightened out, because K-GAP is potentially a good help for the restorer.

I find it interesting that when ever there is a problem with an order from K-Gap there are a few members who feel compelled to jump in and stir the pot..Placing an order especially if you are NOT located in the country of origin is a risky business and requires follow thru from BOTH the buyer and seller.
I have offered a solution to at least test the E mail function and guess what..? NOT ONE ATTEMPT AT FOLLOW UP FROM ANYONE.
I WILL ONCE AGAIN POST MY OFFER TO TEST YOUR E MAIL:
This seems to be an ONGOING issue especially with some members.
As Rambo mentioned many ISP providers block various E-mails so before jumping to conclusions it might be worth looking into to see if the issue is on YOUR END.You might try sending a TEST E mail to someone (ME FOR INSTANCE) then follow up to see if it got delivered. Tombar46@msn.com.
Also this seems to be a reasonable response from the good folks at K-Gap. The cell phone number should provide reasonable access:
"Could you let the forum know that we have been having computer issues, I had to take it back in for the 4th time yesterday. We now have our daughters comp updated so we can carry on with business. Could you let them know if they sent emails this past or so to re send. You can also post my cell phone number because for now that seems to be the best way to reach us. 9517270607.
Thanks
Kaylene"
SEND ME AN E MAIL THEN FOLLOW UP!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Wonder how many successful transactions in a timely manner are handled by K-Gap?
Does anyone keep score of that number?

OF COURSE NOT......IT'S EASIER TO BITCH AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SMALL PERCENT THAT
DON'T.
HAVING BEEN IN SALES FOR 40+ YEARS IT'S ALWAYS THE SQUEEKY WHEEL THAT GETS THE ATTENTION AND IN MOST CASES THE PROBLEM IS AS MUCH THE FAULT OF THE BUYER AS IT IS THE SELLER0 -
Tom,
This is the responce to Alan Walker from K-Gap.So they do get some of their emails. Guess what. No tracking number was received as promised .

Hi Kaylene,
Did you manage to get the balance of my order away as promised below as I need the parts to complete my restoration.I have been emailing you again for the last two weeks without a reply .I think it is about time you treated yourselves to a new computer.
Still waiting;
Alan Walker
Alan and Bronwyn,
Thank you for emailing me, we have had all kinds of computer issues here. Our computer has been in the shop 4 times within the last month in a half. We have had no way of answering of even accessing our email.
They had to wipe the computer completely down so we lost our whole shipping system. All I can tell you is it was shipped weeks ago. All I can do at this point is express mail another package to complete this order.
I will email you with the express tracking number tomorrow.
Thank you
Kaylene

I have had generally very good service from K-gap. A few small glitches but they have always fixed any issues. I agree that the few problems shouldn't get all the attention. Please keep supporting their operations.

I appplaud Dany and Kaylene for Having a desire to serve the club. They Took on a formidable job. It is hard to step into the shoes of Press and Janet Kale. They are trying to run a thankless business Where complaints come easily and praise is few and far between. They may be having troubles, BUT try to get what they offer, somewhere ELSE! You will find that many of the parts would not be available at all, if not for K-Gap. It is hard or very expensive to persude manufacturers to make production runs, for 1954 Tail light lenses as an example, of 50-100 pcs. I worked in the plastic molding business for many years and I have a concept of the cost for such a project. It can easily run on the low end of the cost say 3 to 5 Thousand dollars. Even when they own the Molds they could easily have more in them than they will ever recover. You are looking at 30 to 50 dollars each. Then You have to show the manufacturer where it would be profitable to them. I know, the company I worked for would not set a job for less than Ten Thousand parts per order. Then it was usually as a favor for a customer that used our facility for much larger orders, usually in the order of 10,000 to a million pcs. or more!
So , Please give them the benefit of the doubt. They are good people, and look at it this way, They didn't have to take on the business they could have just let Press shut it down. Then where would You go for parts. More and more of our vendors and in some cases their suppliers are discontinuing parts. Not only for HUDSONs but for all Orphan cars. I wish we could all have the skills of people like BentMetal and others on this forum, but the truth is we cannot. One day soon We will look up and say " What happened to that company that used to sell HUDSON parts?" and the answer will be, "Oh, They closed up shop a while back." Then What!
I'm not making light of anyones problems with K-Gap, and I myself am not, a patient type, but Please give them anther chance.
This is just my opinion and I am not connected to K-Gap in any manner other than I did order some parts a couple of years ago.
Bob Hickson
PS. I bet Press and Janet had issues when they started K-Gap all those years ago.....0 -

One thing to keep in the back of our mind at all times guys.... We're are now trying to keep on the road a make of car the newest of which was last made over 50 years ago. The oldest of which is an OVER 100 year old vehicle. (think about it) In American terms that's ancient. If you don't have patients you're in the wrong hobby. For us to keep this a driver's club some manufacturing needs to take place somewhere in some way shape or form. Parts wear out, just the way it is.
Now if you think you can do a better job we all welcome you to do so with open arms. Seriously! No sarcasm intended.0 -
Proficiency of the business aside, I will simply say that I wouldn't be enjoying my Jet without some of the parts K-Gap was able to provide. The balancing act of what you NEED to do for your family and what you WANT to be able to do for the HET club and car owners can be challenging.0
-
They must get a computer back-up system in place urgently, eg an external hard drive that will save their information regularly. That is worth a lot to any business as you can see what happens when all the information is lost like this.
Also, emails can generally be checked from any on-line computer, not just your own one!
Without these parts being available, some may buy more common cars and be able to get any part they want with a click of the mouse.0 -
As posted in another K-Gap thread...here is what I do....
1) Use on-line to create an order (note the shipping charges & on-line order number)
2) Select the "Pay By Check" methode
3) Replicate on-line order using a word processor and Purchase Order template
4) Enter Shipping Charges and On-line Order Number from Step On on your Purchase Order
5) Print Purchase Order and send it to K-Gapwith payment.
I have always gotten my orders (yes, orders with an "S") in a timely manner using this methode. I also end up with a nice records for the car, me, and K-Gap.0 -

Great idea. Even better, take a screenshot of your completed on-line order, and send it to them with your payment. I always do a screenshot for everything I order on-line and file it into the appropriate computer folder so I can track what's happening.0 -
In regards to those from Australia who have not received their orders in two years, my late mother-in-law was from Australia and her sister(who still lives there) told my wife that the postal system in Australia really stunk and packages took forever to arrive if they arrived at all. She said that no matter how much the postal rates were raised, the service never got better. Perhaps K-Gap sent the orders and they didn't arrive because of the domestic postal service. I hope this can get straightened out for all involved, including Pierre in France, because Dany and Kaylene provide a very important service for us all.

What do you expect....We replaced Horses YEARS ago, but down under they still rely on KANGAROOS....:0 -
Our postal service here in Australia is pretty damn good, Goods arrive from the USA between 7 to 9 working days, I have at present two 10KG parcels to be sent interstae some 600 miles, they will go overnight guaranteed next day delivery for $20.00 each door to door, I just had a parcel from Hong Kong 6 working days, door to door.
There seems to be plenty of your guys complaining about the delivery of the WTN.0 -

Mail's pretty slow here in NZ, 120 years ago mail was as quick by stagecoach as it is today by modern messing around. Can't believe how slow it is sometimes just to go a few hundred km's.0 -
I have never ordered from K-Gap, but I plan to in the future. I pay pretty close attention to this forum and have been aware of all the issues with K-Gap since the Springs took over. I believe that the Springs care about doing a good job otherwise they would not have taken on the responsibility. I do not personally know the Springs, this is just my opinion based upon what I have read in this forum.
It seems that many of their problems have been the result of technology (computer) issues. Maybe they are not very computer savvy and aren't capable of troubleshooting their system when they encounter problems. Also, they may not be aware of conventional backup procedures to protect their data.
Is there not a kind soul in Southern Ca. who might be able to review with the Springs their hardware and software situation and advise/educate them on this aspect of their business?
It seems to me this could be an important step to solving some of the issues that have been raised.

I ordered parts from K-gap in January of 2011 and still have not received them. I have tried email and voicemail and still they do not respond. My CC has been charged but I still have not received the parts. Their voicemail says that they have someone that is very ill. Do any of you know if they are still in business? Do any of you know of another company that sells the weatherstripping ETC...?
I am looking for these items: (for a 1951 Commodore 8)
Qty
> 4 Door bottom seal
> 3 Door edge vertical seal
> 1 Front door pillar vertical seal
Thanks,

Ok, the Springs have had computer problems - now the question is do they back up their hard drive, especially the K-gap portion, and if not - why not????
I have about 15 years worth of Hudson material on my hard drive - and I have a computer that I bought in Dec 2002!!!! Up until recently I was rather negligent about backing up - the old "I'll do it tomorrow" syndrome. Not that I never backed up - I got a ton of CD's around here, most of which I need to go thru and find out what the hell is on them!!!
Recently I found at least a partial answer to backup - it's called a Flash Drive - plugs right into a handy USB port, automatically sets up another drive. Little bitty thing, about the size of a Bic cigarette lighter. You can get them in 2 GB, 4 GB and on up to at least 16 GB. That, my friend, is one hell of a lot of storage space. Another nice feature is, unlike CD's or DVD's you can add material to a Flash Drive without loosing previous material. And, for me best of all, you can work right from the flash drive like you would your hard drive, thus freeing up space on the hard drive. Also working right from the flash drive means automatic backup because it's not on the computer hard drive.
Flash Drives are a tad expensive, tho you can get 2 GB ones at Wal Mart for around $10 - the 16 GB can run up to $30 (at Wal Mart), but maybe cheaper if you shop around. But even for $30 it's a hell of a deal and worth the peace of mind.

Well, it is incomprehensible that any business does not have an external HDD that automatically backs-up every day or whatever. I've got a 1Tb one that was not expensive and backs up a ton of info every day. It's easy to access as well and can also be networked.0 -
Alex, don't forget to back up the flash drive. They fail too.0
