I recently acquired a 53 Twin-H engine. What is the correct color. The color on it now is a light blue.

Gold. A lot of the JC Whitney engines were painted blue. Gold is the factory correct color.

What cubic inch??? The Jet 202s were RED, the Wasp 262s were SILVER, the Hornets were GOLD. Point is any of them could have Twin-H on them or for that matter it could be added to a 232 over the last six decades too. The 232 is silver also.

1953 Jet engines were gold. The red engine paint did not show up until 1954 when all engines (202, 232, 262 & 308) were painted red.

My mistake, Jerry, you are quite correct.

It is 308 Twin H. It will look better gold.

What's with the J.C. Whitney engine?

Thanks all for the color info.

  • JC Whitney took all of the surplus factory engines and sold them through their catalogue. These engines often shipped painted blue.

Note the blue paint on the pictured engine. In the 1970s Hudson engines whose origin was JCW could be found on irrigation well heads in Nebraska.

Red can look kinda nice, too- in the proper surroundings.

Yes it does. The engine in my 64 El Camino is red. I like it better than Chevy Orange. Your engine looks great. I quess the builder of my engine liked blue. It looks like the same color blue an the one in the cradle.

What I'd give if JC Whitney still had some. What a deal.
