Edmunds dual carb manifold
im thinking about buying an edmunds intake for my 262. it fits 2 carter WGD 2 bbls and comes with the original linkage. My question is, does that manifold with the original linkages require special carter WGDs different than the stock 262 Wgd?
Car is 53 super wasp if it matters
Thank you
Zach

You probably already thought about this, but, you know you need the close spread on the carbs. Because it's a Wasp the carbs can't be too far apart or the back one won't clear the fire wall with the air cleaner, etc.0

Two 2 bbl carbs on an unmodified 262 just might be overkill. Jetting can take care of some of the problems, but low manifold vacuum can actually hurt perfromance. Damn sure look cool though!0

Thank you for the replies. I didn't know you had to have that special manifold for the carbs to clear. Hmm... Yeah I know it might be overkill, I might just hang it on my shelf for now until I rebuild the motor. But back to my original question, are the carbs different for the Edmonds linkage or can I use my wgd off my car0

I bet your carb will bolt up and linkage will work fine. You will just have to block the vacuum port on one of them.0

thank you so much!! i appreciate the input

And find another WGD, of course.
Come to think of it, I have a Hudson Twin H for 262 (uses WA1's with slightly smaller bases) that I don't need. Never have compared it to 308 Twin H to see if carbs are closer together. I'll check.0 -
would you consider selling it? if dual 2 bbls dumps gas what about a twin h setup?0
-
Why don't you measure between carb "centers" on your Edmunds, and I'll do the same on both my 308 Twin H and my 262 Twin H. Won't have both numbers until tomorrow, as one of the manifolds is at my office.
Lets see what we come up with, and go from there. I'd kind of like to end up with that Edmunds, to be honest with you- my car is a customized '48 coupe with a 308, and the Edmunds would be "period perfect" for it.0 -
i havnt bought the edmunds yet. soo that may be a problem haha0

My experience has been that both the 262 and 308 Twin H manifolds are identical castings with the exception of the carb mounting machining. I had a 262 manifold all painted and ready to install and found it was a 262. I locktited some bolts, ran them in to the bottom.. Cut them off flush and redrilled and tapped for the 308 spaceing. I think the bore for the venturi was the same. That was 40 years ago.
Where you run into trouble on the SWB cars is the air cleaners. They look kinda cool on the long wheel base cars. both paralell with each other. The SWB cars have to have the rear air cleaner at an angle towards the front to clear the firewall. I think I saw a picture on the forum of a SWB car where they put the rear Air cleaner extended towards the right fender instead of over the head. looked a little wierd to me, but functional. Don't even think about useing the big oil bath Twin H cleaners. If you use the two BBl carbs, you can find dry air cleaners that fit the carbs but they will be painted black. Just paint them Red and maybe lable them "4 H".. LOL0 -
Good news! I'm picking up the manifold linkage and carbs tomorrow. The man is also kind enough to throw in old car magazines. Wooooo! Mike when I get them I'll measure and email you the specs. Yeah I'd like to get some twin h air cleaners. I found an ad on craigslist on some but they were from another state. Maybe fab some sort of twin h aircleaner. Who knows
