Anyone know a good source for brake parts for my '36 Terraplane? I haven't got into it yet, but I'm sure I'll need shoes/lining, and maybe more...slim

  • Contact Norm Blackmer in the CA Inland Chapter as he sells all the parts you will need. Phone 909-984-5544 His parts are all new and he has an old timer that relines brake shoes with the correct lining and the correct way shoes are suppose to be installed. Keep the business in the HET club. Tell him Walt sent you. Walt.
  • Thanks, Walt. Will do.

Any other tips for this undertaking by a dummy? I finally found an ample brake drum puller...slim
  • Make sure the puller is the 3 leg type. Remove axle nut and the flat washer, then put the nut back on to flush with the end of the axle, then mount the puller and make sure the tip of the threaded shaft is flush on axle and the bevel tip lines in axle and all lugs are tight. Good idea to spray WD-40 down key way before you start the removing work. then start hitting the wishbone clock wise but never hit the threaded bolt on the end as that can break to center block in the rear gears. Pulling the rear drums may test your patience and your vocabulary. Follow Walts advice about using penetrating oil. I suggest using the penetrant, after the nut has been removed, a day or two before removing the drum. It will make removal much easier.

But if you prefer a good exhauting physical workout, don't use the penetrant until you start removal. LOL

Brake Shoes Auto Zone #151 36 thru 47 Front 1 3/4 x 10 Duralast Might have to drill cam hole in secondary
    Brake Shoes Auto Zone #31 36 thru 47 Rear 1 3/4 x 10 Duralast
Auto Zone didn't list the shoes for 36 but they had them is stock for 47. Same shoe except for the cam hole, which I laid out and drilled from the old shoe. Been running them for 7 years on my 36 Terrorplane and they work great.
  • Thanks for the tips, Unc and Walt.
    Wish me luck going in...slim
