Just need to vent....
Woke up this morning to find that the windows in my 54 Hornet Brougham were all smashed out. The side windows probably needed to be replaced anyways, but the windshield and back glass were in great shape. The vandals also smashed the windows out of my 4 parts cars too, which were in pretty good shape.
Of course,I didn't have any insurance on it
I guess I will be looking for some curved glass in OKC......

I work with vandals every day, and I've tried to find out why they want to destroy other people's stuff. Still don't have a clear answer. Sorry you got hit.
If you are coming to OKC, Don, and you do intend to buy replacement glass, it would be a good idea to contact a vendor in advance. Vintage Coach in Fontana, CA usually has good stepdown glass. Stu Coleman in Montana may be a source. There are others...look in the WTN "Member's Products and Services" section. Since glass is hard to transport you may not find what you need there, so asking in advance is the way to go.

It is sad.. it speaks to the very sad state of humanity these days that people can't leave stuff alone and are always so quick to mindlessly destroy something beautiful without giving it a thought.0

Sorry to hear about what happened Don. That is a real bummer. Ouch, no insurance. I hope they get cought and pay for damage.
The same thing happened to the guy I bought my 47 PU from. Beside all the window glass they even broke the instrument glass/grove box door glass/Super Six plate, head light switch knob, head lights and tail light.
That may be why classic car insurers require cars to be kept in a locked garage.

Sure sorry about your loss. Its getting so you just about have to cyclone fence everything.
Maddest I ever saw my dad was when some shirt-tail relatives came, and their 12 year old kid destroyed a '40 Chev dad was keeping as a parts car for another 40 he had. He turned the kid over his knee and paddled him, pushed him back to his folks and told them to git- and if he ever saw that kid again, he'd probably still be mad enough to paddle him again.
Never saw those folks again. And the whole scene left a "lasting impression" on me.
I later heard the kid died in prison when he was in his '30's.0 -
Have a front glass with tint with one rock chip i could sell also have a tinted rear I beleive. Can bring to OK. Can check warehouse tomorrow. Let me know. Russ Maas 309-838-55510

Don: obviously you should be MAD/SAD about destruction of your property.
I can offer a suggestion on how to get to the bottom of what has happened. Offer a $100 reward to the person who comes forward and provides information on who is responsible for the vandalism.
When confronted with a similar situation in the 70s, I went to the local school and posted a note with the permission of the principle...the perpetrator was "fingered" by... a BUDDY. In this day I am sure that those responsible are hooting up their deeds on Facebook or other social media. Those who do these types of deeds are looking for attention and they will NOT keep quiet... so get some of the local kids listening... and I am sure the perps will be outed!
As far as not being insured... those who are responsible for this damage are responsible for paying for returning your property to serviceable condition... if the perpetrators are kids as I suggest; offer the parents an option of paying for the damage as well as the reward if paid out, or seeing you in court. If adults did this damage then jail them and sue them for damages!
Good Luck in finding the glass breakers as well as getting your pound of flesh back from them!0 -
That is what is wrong with this country, and the world. Even if anyone did see who did the deed they are too scared to get involved. They know the courts will just slap them on the wrist, say, Bad Boys and let them go. Rest assured if I see something I WILL tell on the S!@#$%^&*()_s Because next time it might be ME. I have NO tolerance for Delinquency, Juvenile or Adult.
Sorry for Your loss Don, I won't be in OKC but I do have a '54 windshield with a small star in the right lower side ( I believe thats correct) and I do have a rear window that I took out of my parts car. If you need them. They are in the garage attic and I haven't looked at them in a couple of years.

This stuff is infuriating, and if I caught a kid doing it I'm not sure I could be restrained. I work in a town where the kids are pampered and get away with this all the time. Keying is the big problem locally. I lock my cars inside at night and never let them out of my sight unless they are in a secure lot. I hope you catch them. One principle I live by is "what goes around, comes around". Someday all this will catch up to him (them), if you don't.0

Don, I have a very nice tinted REAR glass for a sedan. Is it the same as a broughm? I know it will not fit a coupe..I have a 35 HUDSON 8 coupe and a load of parts ready to take to OKC to sell. I will load the glass in if you can use it.. will take $100 with a very good rubber gasket with it.0

Thanks for the support. I live in an neighborhood of small ranches away from town. I've never had issues before, but I guess nobody is immune to vandals. All my neighbors have fences to keep their horses in, but I guess they serve to keep people out too.....I hate fences, but maybe I could build a corral for the cars so they can't be seen by kids passing by (or my wife....LOL!).
I just booked my hotel room for the National. I am towing a trailer full of parts to sell, but I am sure it won't come home empty. Stop by and say hello if you are at the meet.

Due to my health problems, my '54 sedan has not been out of the garage in 2 years, but I still carry insurance through Haggerty, cause You never know what might happen.

My theory is that it's a case of "you got something I don't - so I'm not going to let you enjoy it!!"
That said I also think it's a case of these kids are bored out of their skulls because they have nothing to do. To much free time on their hands. Blame that on the namby pamby's that say we can't put these kids to work after school because that might warp their young minds. Right. I started working when I was 12!!! During the summer most days - started out helping Dad with his florist business. One summer ran a 15 foot open boat with an outboard motor hauling lobster traps. Now THAT's work. Didn't kill me. And during my junior and senior years I worked part time in a local garage.
To bad we don't still have the deterent we had back in my days of growing up - shotgun loaded with rock salt!!!! Never heard of anybody getting killed but that stuff really stings - for a long time - er, so I've heard it said!!!:ohmy:
