need clutch help

Today, I got the car out for a nice ride in the country. After a number of miles and an hour of driving, as I pulled away from a stop sign and shifted into second, th clutch made that grinding noise, the shifter was hard to move and I just barely got it into second. From there on it worked fine but I took the car back to the barn and decided to ask you folks what you think it may be. Until this week I've never had any trouble with the clutch in thirty-two years of ownership.
Can anyone suggest what the problem is? I thank all of you in advance.

When's the last time you changed the clutch fluid?0

I changed it this spring. However, a lack of clutch fluid would not produce the grinding noise and feeling through the pedal. I spoke today with Ron, the clutch man, and he suggested that the throw-out bearing may not have been greased lately. The car was greased when the fluid was changed but the mechanic may have missed the throw-out bearing grease fitting. Ron also said the fingers may be binding.
I'll have to persue this further.

Another possibility is that the clutch disc is just worn out and the grinding you hear is the metal to metal contact between the pressure plate, flywheel, and disc.0

"the throw-out bearing may not have been greased lately"
If the throw-out bearing is making this noise at this point, greasing it will not be the fix. If it were me,I would be planning on when I was going to take it apart?.CG0 -
Speaking of 50 Pacemaker clutch problems, this is what I found a few weeks ago in my 50 Pacemaker. Half of the corks were missing and the other half fell out when I took the disc off of the pressure plate. It was that metal to metal sound along with a bad throw-out bearing. I'm picking up all new parts from Dr. Doug in Oklahoma City.

Thanks all for the pictures and information. I took the car to the garage that works on it and they found the clutch needed adjusting. After that the transmission shifted better. The mechanic also found that he had greased the throwout bearing this spring. However, a couple times when depressing the clutch, since having the adjustment done, I have gotten that grinding, scraping sound with the vibration through the pedal. I've been trying to get ahold of the clutch guy but he is probably in OKC. I suspect I will need to do a rebuild, but don't know if I will have to buy everything for the clutch or just some parts.
By the way, the mechanis said the rod that goes into and through the transmission/clutch and apparently actuates the clutch, does not come out to the edge of the hole on the right side of the transmission. He said he could stick his finger in and feel the end of the rod. He wants to know if that rod is supposed to be right out to the end of the hole or if there is supposed to be a bushing or something to keep that hole from being clogged with dirt.
Agan, thanks for any help you can give us.
