1947 Hudson Pickup
Just Received a 1947 Hudson pickup for restoration.
The previous owner had the whole body and interior stripped. He told us that the truck was originaly black. Just wondering if black was a correct color and what color the interior was, the dash is grey. Any help would be appreciated.

In my General Information Handbook I have the following colors for 1947 Hudson pickups:
Ebony Black (K) - with Cream Wheels
Gun Metal (G) - with Red Wheels
Belvedere Blue B - with Cream Wheels
Corresponding Ditzlac Paint Numbers are:
Ebony Black - 9200
Gun Metal - 30249
Belvedere Blue - 10463

The link to Larry Cramer doesn't work but im gonna post my serial # here hoping to get as much info as possable. Here it is 17128211. If anyone that can give us info on the truck it would be greatly appreciated.

From the serial number I can tell you that you got a truck made from a car!! 171 is the model number (28211 the actual serial number). All 1947 trucks were model 178's.
That said I can also tell you that the vehicle was one of 11,313 built in March 1947. In 1947 there were 49,176 Super Six Model 171's produced - 2,917 Model 178 Commercial (read that 'trucks').
Car to truck conversions weren't all that uncommon, tho it was more so back in the 1920's. I'm trying to remember - I think there was a fellow in Arkasas was working on a 1947 model that had been converted from a car. Been a while so I'm not really sure about that.

Ok this may sound silly. We are going by the serial # on the title we would like to know where the serial # plate should be on the truck. Also how do we verify options, paint color, interior color and wheel color. We want to preservt the history of Hudson and make this truck as original as possable. Any help we can get would be appreciated.

Also is our truck a 171 or a 178. and is a 171 still considered a real low production truck or is it considered a high production car.0

Serial, and model, number is on a plate on the right door post.
There were no Model 171 pickups, only Model 178 (Commercial 6) rated at 3/4 ton.
Not sure on how to tell the original color - however, that said there may be a paint code on the ID plate on the right door post. There is a list of 1947 color options in the General Info Handbook I mentioned in an earlier post here. On page 96 of the Hudson section of the handbook.
I'm sure Uncle Josh (Larry Cramer) can answer many of your questions.
Curiosity question - where did your truck come from?? As I mentioned in an earlier post there was a 171 sedan converted into a truck a fellow over in, as I recall, but could be wrong, Mena, Arkasas.

Since your going to make this as original as possible, you might want to check out the Hudson Truck Group here on the forum. There has been some good discusion on things original and specific to trucks, as apposed to cars.0

Thanks Again for the info. Our truck started life in Latrobe Pa. and went to Laporte IN. About 14 years ago. Then we acquired it and the story goes on.0 -
This thing sure looks like an original truck. The box and fenders are authentic. Does it have the oval window in the back of the cab? I put you in the roster along with the aproximately 850 other trucks registered.
Measure the wheelbase. That will tell the story if there isn't a 7-inch extension welded into the frame aft of the cab. The trucks are 128 inch. The cars were 121.
Also, measure the box length. The truck is 94 inches.
If that checks out, why is it listed as a 171. Check out the location of the SN tag. It should be riveted on the passenger door post half way between the upper hinge and the bottom of the windsheild. Look for signs of a replacement tag, ie screws vs rivets. If everything checks out to be an original truck, somebody replaced the SN tag with one from a car to get it registered.

Ok. Thanks for everyones help. The truck does have an oval back window and is a 125" wheel base. The previous serial # that I had posted was for a parts car that we have. The correct serial # is 1785467. Larry if you could correct the serial number on the registry that would be great. Again thanks to everyone and you'll be hearing from us soon.

Ah, that's better! You're in my registry. Next time you renew you're membership, include the truck data for Charlotte's master list.
You need a tape measure stretcher. The wheel base is 128
Hopefully, you have a good grille in that parts car. You'll find that most everything in the car will fit the truck.
The brakes on the car are smaller, the drive shaft is shorter and the rear springs have less leaves.0
