Stepdown chassis/underneath paint

Was the floor pan underneath to the trunk of the stepdown painted the color of the car or was it black? Of course the front clip was black, but was the rest underneath black as well?

    My car 49 albeit rusty had only red oxide primer from the firewall back to the rear bumper (underneath only - the firewall was painted green with only a little green overspay meeting underneath) I can vouch that the car was completely original and REALLY has never been undercoated, wrecked or painted - not even a spot repair.

    The 54 I just worked on is the same as Dan's. Red oxide primer where it hadn't been undercoated. It appears that the firewall was painted after the subframe was installed because there was body color overspray on the sub frame under the toe board. Not neatly masked off. Also on the inside of the front fenders behind the fender wells only visible with the fenders removed, was grease pencil scribbled markings "LWB" on one line and "HT" on the second line. Most likely meant "Log wheel base" and "Hardtop". It is a Hornet Hollywood. It must have been a note to the next guy on the assembly line.I didn't paint over that part..kinda like leaving a time capsul for the next guy that takes the car apart.

    Dave, Maybe"HT" meant hydromatic transmission.
