Does anyone know where to obtain the decal used on the air cleaner on a 1949 Hudson commodore with a 8 cylinder engine?

Also are there any other decals used in the engine compartment on this vehicle?

I probably won't be able to help you much. First you need to determine which one you have ..There were two different filters. The dry type which was standard equipment. it looks like the dry type Twin H , but has a larger throat to fit the two BBL carb.painted black. The optional was an oil bath type it has a large pot and was also painted black. I think (guessing) the dry type was manufactured by Fram and the oil bath was manufactured by AC. In that case, perhaps another car manufaturer has decals that would work? I have pictures of all of the decals on a 55 twin H air cleaner and would like to find pictures of all the others for reference purposes.. I'll have to attend a National meet to find originals to photograph. If you have pictures of any of the original decals, please forward them to me.

Kgap has other decals for your Hudson. Kgaphet@aol.com

    Thanks, Dave w. Fl
  • Dave, My Hudson has the Oil Bath type air filter. The original decal was orange in color and oval in shape. I could not read what was on the decal. Found a place to obtain a air cleaner decal for a 46 to 47 Hudson, but not a 49. At least I now know there were two types of air cleaners available - thanks for that input!

My 49 C8 has an orange/black decal on the top of the cowl right side. Hard to see

with the overspray but I think I've seen a pic of one on this forum, try a search.

thinking that it was patent info and such and maybe some in spanish?
  • Hi Gary, I have had the AC oval decals reproduced exactly like the originals and have enough of them for everyone that needs them.

They are very high quality, and exactly like the originals -- a must have for that perfect restoration in my opinion.

I do not have a set of air cleners restored yet with these installed, but I will post here the picture I took of an original on a car in Colorado, so that you can see if its the one you need. If it is, email me and I'll see that you get a couple, or as many as you want.

Same goes for anyone else that needs some.

  • Here's the decal I have had reproduced.
  • Does anyone have the decal for the other air cleaner that looks like the Twin-H? I need one for my 51 Commodore 8.

Can you share with me the information on where to get the 46-7 decals . I have been looking for a while and all I can find is a close (but not close enough) decal
  • Silverone,

I just sent you an e-mail asking for pricing for one or two of those decals. They sure seem to be the correct decal for my 1949 8cyl Oil Bath Air Cleaner. I would like to obtain one ( or two - in case i mess up during application ).

Thanks for the input and for making a reproduction decal!

  • EssexAdv,

I found Air Cleaner Decals for 1936 to 1937 Hudons at Bruce Levey's Web Site:

    http://www.blaap.com/catalogue/newmanuals/2bmisc_checker.htm#

( not sure why the web address is not coming up as a link on this reply - maybe doing it incorrectly? )

I hope these are not the "close ( but not close enough ) decals you were referring to.

I am looking for two or more decals. These are on my oil bath cleaners for the twin H.

How much and to Who? I am in the process of repainting these now. The twin H can be found through a number of people and the HET store, I think.
