28 Essex Roadster Steering Bracket - needed

I see in the parts for 1928 Essex that the Roadster had a different bracket from other models. (79326 Roadster, 79814 - others number found on top side of bracket). This is the large loop that attaches to the outer tube under the dash for adjusting height. My Roadster has had the steering modified (1927 wheel ), so I am restoring it back to original. It looks like it has a 1929 bracket.(80593 - Town sedan, roadster, convertible coupe, 80595 - Coach, sedan, coupe, phaeton)

Does anyone know what is the difference and was it done it allow more room in the roadster?

I found this photo (attached) and it looks like the bracket is extra long which explains why my bracket does not even reach the bottom position.

Does anybody have a spare one?

    Peter, looking at the picture, your car has a "foreign" steering column and wheel, as the original '28's had a four-spoke wheel, with the jacket tube ending at the support bracket. Possibly the whole steering box is from another car. My guess is that it is from a 1931 model. I have the mold for getting the support brackets cast if you want the correct shorter one.

    The photo is not my roadster. It is from a picture I found for this roadster from Uruguay saying it was "Not for sale at $120,000". It shows a long support bracket which my roadster seems to need.

    I have added a photo of my support bracket which is in the lowest adjustment position however the adjustment at the steering box is at its upper limit and the rear bolt to the chassis is about 1/4" off the chassis. Bolted down it will not reach.

    The support bracket is 15 cm (6") from top to bottom and it needs to be about 25 cm (10") to start at the top adjustment. The steering box, position on chassis, column all appear to be the same as my 1928 Essex Coach. There is about 3" more leg room in the coach than the roadster so this is why this support bracket needs to be longer in the roadster as it further forward and is therefore on a lower part of the steering column.



    Do you know of anyone with a 1928 Essex Roadster who could check the size of their bracket?

    Sorry for the misunderstanding. There are no '28 roadsters in N.Z., just a few '27 boat-tails. Your bracket is the correct one for '28, so I cannot understand why the steering box will not bolt down. It's probably the Aussie-built body is different. The '28 custom bodied Hudsons had a longer support bracket, you may be able to locate one of these.
