Getting ready to swap out the std transmission in my 46 Super Six Brougham with an OD out of a 51 Hudson. Any tips that might make this go smoothly?

Well there is the different bell housing thing. Got that taken care of ?
  • As far as I know the transmission will bolt up to the stock bell housing. Am I mistaken on this?
  • Dont think there would be a problem bolting it to bell housing, but the overdrive is differant with solinoid and governer on oppisite sides, may be an interference with frame???? I would try to find a 41-47 trans with OD, would be no problems. Also need the OD driveshaft

the 51 will go into the 41-47 frame but the 41-47 won't go into the stepdown.

Make sure your vehicle has a 10" clutch, or you are headed for problems.

The stepdown tranny will bolt up to the earlier bell housing OK from the inside of the housing. My 49 overdrive fits into my 47 truck frame with about a half-inch to spare at the governor. If yours is a little too tight, take a notch out of the frame. The OD will add 8 1/2 inches which you'll have to take up with the driveshaft.
