  • OK Fellows, The fellow who has the parts wants to sell as one lot, not individual pieces and wants $4000.00 for everything, so I would not call him unless you are willing to go for the whole kahuna, There is no list or inventory of whats there, so you would have to look at it yourself and go from there. His name is Bob Kerchner in Spring Grove Pa. He has been a HET member since dirt was invented and one heck of a straight shooter, So go for it.I would get it myself, but I am planning a move back to Beautiful, Quiet IOWA. EMAIL ME AND I WILL GIVE YOU HIS PHONE NUMBER.
  • Are you talking a box truck full of parts, or a semi? Getting several tons of unboxed freight to Las Vegas, NV could be cost prohibitive.

Are the Kerchner's getting out of Hudsoning? I thought the younger Kerchner was into Hudsons too. If I remember right it was his Super Jet that was featured in Special Interest Autos 5 or so years ago.
  • Wrong Kerchner, His brother had and still has a Jet. If you knew Bob , you would that he is getting up in years and this is the reason, I would say 1/2 way between a semi and a pickup, quite a few parts including some used, but he is definitly not getting out of Hudsons.
  • Tom, thanks for the info. I keep forgetting that we're getting older :)

I remember the Kerchner's from my youth, but I've been away from PA for a dozen years ... my memories of the Penna. Dutch HET Chapter have faded considerably.
  • Yea, Bobs 76 now, Got 9 years on me. Still the same as when I met him 40 years ago. Are you not out of your element in Las Vegas? I remember the Royers as being very active years ago in this area. Tom
  • The main thing I learned at Mansfield University of PA is that snow sucks!

My pap (Dick Royer) died in '92 and all the Hudson stuff ('47 Commodore 6 and '52 Conv.) was sold after a few years. Being a poor musician, I couldn't afford them at the time. Now that I'm doing OK I wanted to get active again with Hudsons.

    Having fun with my Jet...

I remember quite a few labor day weekends when Kerchner's used to host a meet at their house in Spring Grove. I can't remember the last one I went to, I was probably 10 years old or so...I guess it's been 20 years. It's cool to see all that the same people are still active in Hudsons that I remember from my childhood.

  • YEA, That was the days when they were called Hudson Meets, Very informal, lots of fun. Just people getting together telling stories and such.

Royer, I'm running that old straight eight I got from the estate in my 52 Hornet. Runs great and it's destined for my 46 Pickup when the 308 gets rebuilt this winter. I may have met you when I picked it up.
  • I had left PA by that point. I've wondered about that motor, I don't remember where he got it from, but he had been planning to put it in his '47 Commodore Six. He also had an eight that was in his '52 conv. he was working on.

    Good luck.

YUP, Thats Northern Iowa, Southern Iowa was only -7 this Am., But good roads. no traffic. Spent 3 weeks there this August and only heard one truck driver using his Jake Brake because he didn't know what the middle pedal was for and NO Harleys with no baffles in thier pipes also drove from Cedar Rapids to Washington (75 miles) in 45 min. and didn't have one minivan or suv. riding my rear bumper Still love it.

Bill, thanks for the invite. I have go to S Cal in January, so I'll look you up then. I almost forgot Grandma was secretary of HET in the 70's. They were always active with newsletters and such for the PA Dutch and the local car club.

BTW, sometimes I think there are more people that used to be from central PA than are left actually living in central PA.

  • I am trying my durnest to get out of here.
  • Looking for a good set of NOS gauges for my 49 Comm. Would like to replace my faded Speedo, Clock, and temp/Oil cluster with new as the ones I have are looking shabby. Would really love to find a true NOS set, complete with new car smell. Anyone have a set or have a lead on a set? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!!
  • Well, me and Hudsondad went and looked at the parts tonight...

Quite a bunch of parts, you better have lots of storage if you decide to take this accumulation on.

Bob is a true gentleman, showed us nice hospitality, showed us around, terrific guy!

Glad we had the opportunity to see all of the stuff.

Why would you ever wanna leave PA???

    BTW, 75 miles in 45 minutes, that's flying, that's 100MPH average, figuring

    75/45 = 25/15 = 100/60

aren't there any speed limits out there?
  • What kind of parts were there?

    Hudsonkid-

How much space are we talking about?

    Russell
  • I would say there was a lot of body parts, some mechanical, some chrome, stainless, body panels, a few engines, a bunch of heads, several rear axles, and differentials, no carriers though, exhaust pipes, etc....

It was worth the trip, a fun chance to see this much Hudson stuff in one place.

As a whole, if you were to go over with one of those U-haul cube truck, I bet it would take at least 5 trips.

The main problem is that there is no real order to any of it, It looks real similar to how Hudsondad's garage sort of is, as it came off, or was accumulated, there was room made for a item, but in defense of Hudsondad, this was far worse.

Hudsondad at least got stuff stacked in some semblance and order, and if you get thru the one layer, there were many attempts at organization, especially with the engines, transmissions, and some of the sheetmetal, getting to much of it seems to be the biggest problem. Sort of like planning for X amount of stuff, and ending up with 3X amount of stuff, with X amount of space...

All in all, the lot was well worth the investment, it was mostly stepdown parts, some pre stepdown stuff, and while there was some NOS stuff, it was in my opinion a lot more older takeoff, mainly the sheetmetal, and some of the stainless, as far as some of the body parts, and some of the stainless suffered from years of "non careful handling" (or shelf wear, if you like)

There was a lot of good stuff there, lots of hard to find stuff.

We appreciated the opportunity to look at it all, and honestly, I don't think we even got to see everything, if you are looking for a stock of good hudson parts, this would be ideal if you got the space to store it, and my guess is that it would about fill two bays from floor to ceiling of a two car garage, easily.
  • If I was any where near I would buy the lot in a heartbeat.

Pa. Wasn't like this when I moved here 20 years ago. Don't have to work now, Easier /slower life. Bascailly the same reasons I moved to Iowa in the first place in the 60's. Yea I was booking, maybe I stretched the truth just a little, had to meet a realtor. But what I was driving has a H on the front anyway AND getting 40 mph to boot. You going to buy the stuff?
  • Tom, what were you driving? got me curious... still an impressive trip.

    as far as the parts....

Hudsondad is the money man. I am but a poor young guy...

I work out the logistics of the deals, meeting time, find the stuff, make the phone calls, drive hudsondad, etc... I would also be probably going over and getting some of the loads if we ended up with it.

I don't know what his intentions are....

I think he is hoping someone else buys it, just to solve the massive storage problem. I told him we could use my basement for a while, until we work out that finite detail, but I think that there is just too much stuff there we will never use, the price is good for what's there, but there is just too much stuff...

Usually when you hear about a massive amount of stuff, you don't think it's really a big pile, but this one was.

Remember, during the last 20 years, we parted out about 12-14 hudsons as well, and we got all of the parts from them that we are storing, not to mention the Oldsmobiles, and other cars that met the same fate....
