Great looking car!! First Hudson I ever drove ( I was 17-18) was that georgous green from the factory. That was about 1957.0

Geoff - What a great looking Pacemaker. We sold a lot of 1950 Hudsons the color of your car - it was a real popular color for 1950.

YES... Peacock Green.. My favorite too..

Beautiful car Geoff - you can be proud of the old girl.

Yep, she's a real beauty. That's my favorite body style, I think (after the convertible). I hope to have a 2Dr. Sedan one day. And I agree with everyone else on the color: Peacock green was one of the prettiest!
Very Nice!!0 -
Absolutely gorgeous. I hope my car will look like that someday.
I thought mine was also Peacock Green, but I just took my Acme color chip sheet out and compared it to some of the original paint under the hood and it looks about halfway between Peacock and Oriental Green. Is there any way to tell for sure what it was originally?0 -
Richie's car in Atlanta, GA looks a lot like that in color and style, his may be the long wheel base. Very nice looking car, be proud. Thanks, Bob0

Look for the paint code stamped in the right front door upper hinge where it bolts to the door frame. You may have to clean it good. Post the number and you will get your answer. Walt.0

Hey Geoff, beautiful car, mine is very similar. I'm not sure what color mine is as I took the gas tank filler door to the paint shop and they matched the inside of it. Anyway, the green looks good on the ole Hudsons.0 -
Looks like my 51 Hornet, Jefferson Green0

That is a great looking car. Would love to have one just like it.0

Gorgeous car. Was really surprised to learn that was a factory color. With that as a choice, how did they sell any in this color?

I'm surprised some of you guessed that the car is Peacock Green. To my eyes, in this particular picture, the car appears blue. Here's the story. In 1979 I bought the car from Everett Hudson, and he had just bought it from the widow of the original owner. It had never been out in winter and even in summer, if the old fellow thought it might rain, he would call a cab. The only thing was that as he got older, he had a few scrapes, so the paint was a bit patchy.Everett's friend, Jim Bonquet, who used to work at a Hudson dealer and had a paint shop in his garage, took the car in for the winter of 79-80. In the spring, he called me to say that he was about ready to spray it, but he had found a color chip for a 1971 Chevy paint that was an absolute match for the Hudson Peacock Green. He suggested I go with the more modern paint, but he asked that I come down and look at the sun visor that he had just painted to see if I wanted to go with that paint.
When I got to his place that Saturday, Jim said that he had decided to go ahead and paint the car anyway, so if I hadn't liked it, it was too late. However, I loved it and though the paint chips were an exact match, side by side, on the door jams, you could see that the new paint had just a bit more blue in it than the Hudson Peacock Green had. Soon after it was painted, I went to the big car show at Topsfield, MA, where a man was photographing all cars as they entered, then selling the owners small viewers with the car's picture in it. When I looked at mine the car appeared to be dark blue. The photographer said he used Agfa film and that apparently picked up the blue with a vengeance. In person the paint is definitely green, but this photo which I took with my new digital camera also appears blue though not nearly so much as the Agfa film did.
By the way, the Chevy paint is called Twilight. That green doesn't suggest twilight to me.

:cheer: Ritchie,
Your car is beautiful and in your picture it looks just as mine does in person. The shop got the color right and it is most definitely Peacock Green. Mine has just passed sixty-four thousand miles. I was able to get four great window crank knobs from Rob Fayette to make the interior look proper, but what I would like to get now would be some of the grey, leather patterned vinyl that is on part of the door panels. The arm rests are worn through to the black rubber beneath and I would like to get them recovered. I assume your car has the same interior colors as mine. Were you able to find original appearing upolstery for your car?
Geoff Blake0 -
Geoff, your car really looks good and I like the visor. My car came with a visor in the trunk as the 70 plus year old lady drove the car thru the car wash and bent it up. My car's interior is not original, the headliner is vinyl as are the door panels. I bought new carpet from Kanter but the rest of the interior is the way I bought it. The interior is all green, showing some wear. I was told that the car has a 54 steering column and steering wheel, it has a 262 engine with O/D and runs very well. I put disc brakes on the front and the exhaust adapt from Bob Parks with duals. The original radio works great and the wipers do also. Only problem I have that I don't like is when it rains, it leaks pretty badly. Both front floors will get wet in about 5 minutes of heavy rain. New gaskets and seals have been installed on the doors but it still leaks.
If I can find some pics of the interior I'll send them to you. Richie.0 -
Mike, is this your car?,and/or where did it go?. Was this car on eBay several years ago?. If it is the one I worked on,it is a great TRUE survivor. I beleive it came from Sou.Cal.?. CG0

:cheer: Richie,
There are times I wish mine had a 262 with overdrive. Mine has just the standard three speed so I keep it at about 60 on the highway.
The regular brakes seem fine to me, I can almost stand the thing on its nose. Are the disks an improvement? Right now my car is in the garage having the clutch replaced. The mechanics did not know, nor did I, that the transmission has to come out through the interior. They are learning as they go. The floor mats with padding beneath were stuck to the floor, then with those out, they had trouble finding the bolts that hold down the big panel in the center of the floor. The bolts were all gummed up with tar sealant. But, it is on its way and should be done by next Tuesday, and I hope that takes care of the clutch problems.

:cheer: Richie,
I forgot to comment on the leaks you are having. In a heavy rain, my floor on the driver's side gets wet, but I have traced it to the bottom of the windshield near the outer corner. You know how because of the shape of the car the outer corner of the windshield is actually the lowest spot. Maybe your leak is from there also, rather than the doors.
Geoff0 -
With this W/S leak problem, the hoses that drain the lower outside corners of the windshield could have rotted off, or become clogged by a spider web also. And then sometimes, we had to remove the windshields and reseal the rubber gasket to the windshield opening.
Jerry0 -
As Jerry mentioned, there are 3 drains related to the windshield and heater. I discovered the lower w/s drains when removeing fenders. There's one at the bottom of the heater plentum that is hard to see with engine in place. I'm not a Hudson restore expert, but I've discovered a number of innovations Hudsons have that tells ya they had a handle on everything.
I've recently sold my last Studebaker and focusing on my Hudson. I hope to do another before I leave here. (with a 262 next time, 254 has challenged me)

Geoff, the brakes on my P/M were OK but not great. It had the wider drums and shoes from a Hornet on the front and standard brakes on the back. The disc brakes made a big difference to me. There are Hudson guys that swear by the original brakes, and are great if properly set up. Whatever works for you and makes you happy is my point.
I have done two clutch jobs and hated taking the floor apart to get the trans. out.The sealant looked almost like weld is was so perfectly installed. Only other option I could see was to pull the engine and trans out as a unit and I didn't want to do that. Good luck on the clutch repair. Richie.0 -
Geoff, I can see the water trail running down the door jam down to the sill plate. I have added silicone to route the water outward and made a little improvement. I will check the corner of the windshield, thanks for the tip. Richie.0

Jerry, I will check the drains for sure, I have never seen those drains. Thanks for the idea. Richie0

Kim, I will check all drains, thanks for your comment. Richie.0

Here is my 49 in MY version, which is actually a GM truck color. Somehow gets a more blue hue in pictures:cheer:0 -
:cheer: Tim and SuperDave, those are beautiful cars. As you can see, the paint shows up as mine did, more blue. Perhaps it is the light though SuperDave, the trees in the background of you photo are quite different from those in my photo, so the light is probably not the same.
On the matter of the clutch, I found out from Ron Fellows, after the work was done, that on the short wheelbase cars like Pacemakers, it is possible to do the job from underneath by detatching the tranny and moving it back. He said that only on the long wheelbase cars is necessary to go in through the interior. Oh, well, live and learn. I'm sure the mechanic would have liked knowing that before hand. I don't dare tell him.
