There has to be an interesting story behind this car. Someone has gone to the trouble of transporting a presumably good car or at least a straightforward project from Australia to the US, then it ends up in this condition.
From the firewall back, the shell is presumably a Ruskin body which looks similar to but has a lot of subtle differences to the Hudson product.0 -
You are saying that Russkin built the 4-door Australian-built Hudson bodies? I thought they only built the brougham "slopers" and the utes.
What were the differences between the U.S.-built 4-door bodies, and those made by Russkin? Was the overall body shape different?0 -
Jon, generally speaking, Terraplanes sold here arrived as a kit which included a (disassembled?) chassis, running gear, 4 fenders, a hood and a radiator shell. Ruskin, and possibly others assembled the kits and made and mounted 4 door sedan bodies, roadsters, utes and slopers on them. Some Hudsons of the 30's era arrived fully built, some were locally bodied.
The appearances of the Australian & US bodies were similar but they were not exact copies. I understand the doors won't swap between the 2 bodies for instance, one had gutters above the doors the other didn't etc.
46 and 47 Hudson sedans bodied here have the 46/47 front clip combined with the late 30's shell. Ruskin never retooled for the to make the 40's shell, they kept using the late 30's shell until the stepdowns arrived. Which is another story altogether.0 -
Coincidentally, I've taken delivery of a dead 36 Ruskin bodied Terraplane today, so here are a few photos that you can compare with the US bodies models, if anyone wants close-ups of other areas either PM me here or r-j-wardATbigpond.com
I'll start a separate thread, but I only want the hydraulic brake parts off this Terra to retro-fit to our 35 roadster project, if anyone wants the rest please let me know.
RH side
Firewall and parts for rare 4WD option
No roof gutters, the roof extends over the door tops
Front door/windscreen detail0 -
Doesn't look like there is too much to want off of it! How are you doing Bob?0

Hey bob, the info on the Ruskin is very interesting. Was wondering where you are located? I could sure use the windshield off yours for my coupe build, possibly the rear fenders?? Thanks again! If anyone is interested in the sedan I have make me an offer..0

50 bomb, I'm too far away for those parts to be of any use to you.
Rant on. One thing that needs be tweaked on this site is that member locations should display up front under the avatar. I know the info is available if you know where to look, but for an international site like this, location needs to be obvious. Rant off.
Flat automotive glass is easy, take your badly scratched originals or cardboard templates to any larger glass shop and they will cut them out for you0 -
Ok thanks anyways!0
