is this ebayer serious?

Serious, maybe - hopeful, definitely. A very nice looking car, tho the interior, for the asking price, should be spotless.
A year ago $45,000 was possible - the market has dropped considerably since those days of speculator driven prices. I'd put this one at between $20,000 and $25,000. But then again what do I know. If the engine is a true 7X that that would add to the value, certainly.

Let the "pileing on" begin.. LOL . Really, for a price like this the headlight rims should be chrome,Front hose collar shouldn't droop forward, no missing screws from the door sills etc.
If I had it.. i would be very happy..;)0 -
Somewhere a ladies' restroom is missing its carpeting...:cheer:0

is that really a 7x engine? How can you tell from the outside?:)0

Alex. most people think that if it has 2 carbs it's a 7X. Too much wrong with this car to be worth that price. Dash gauges are in bad condition, front bumper looks to be leaning down, and no pictures of the frame. Walt.0

IMHO, it is NOT a 7X engine. No studs and no dual exhaust are the 1st clues.

Dido That was my first thought.0 -
He also claims "Good Original Trim" ,the one porkchop is clearly pitted. He also said "Good Original Paint" yet you can see the masking errors around the decals and tags,

First let me say, I am NOT in the market for another car but, If I was, I would like to have a car this nice. That said I did notice that the front bumper is twisted, or something and the headlight rings are painted, And missing screws in the inner door sill. Still it is a good looking car. Doubtful about the 7X engine but I think it would be worth $12K-15K. If it runs well and has no other mechanical problems.

Those are head bolts, not the half inch studs. Start looking and there are several issues with this car. But it is a nice Hudson, but the current owner is a dreamer. No mention of how it runs or drives, true mileage, no real history. He bought it at a lower price and thinks he can make big bucks on it. I think he will sit on this one. Arnie in Nevada.

Nice car and would sure like it it my garage but, over priced. From the look of the original chrome ( not the rechrome) and gauges it has seen alot of hot sun. Cover over the trunk key hole is missing and the radio looks like it is out of a 52. Will be interesting to see if someone bites.0

Anyone who is a sucker...er... I mean a buyer ...would be someone who really doesn't know their Hudson's. But I agree with BJ, at $12-$15 K maybe $20 K at most as a good runner and some TLC to smooth out the edges and some proper chrome headlight rings it could be a nice car to own. I know a lot of people have Barret-Jackson syndrome but someone forgot to tell this guy we're in a bad economy and unlike previous recessions credit is tight so speculators chasing collectibles as a store of value outside the stock market isn't likely to happen as in previous recessions. Plus increased gas prices makes it a more expensive gamble these days if you're in it for the money.0

Chances are, he's not trying to sell it to a Hudson fanatic. He's hoping to sell to a rich guy who see's the car and thinks "My Dad had one of those when I was a kid"...0

Man, you guys play rough! I don't think I'll be advertising my cars on this forum. Lol...slim

I think if it saves someone from buying a car that is grossly misrepresented and way over priced to boot, it's well worth discussing and exposing it for what it is. I've been burned myself, so I wellcome the expertise on this board!0 -
The hornet badge Interior? Hornet 145 for a twin h ? John0
-
The medallion on the driver's door in the photo doesn't appear to contain the number 145, which referred to the horsepower of the first 308 put in service in 1951. In Hudson's advertising, the new engine introduced the "the miracle of H-power"- hence the H and 145. The '52s, as well as the '51's used that designation on the door medallion. (It is part no. 22685, section TT5 Hudson Master Parts Catalog, p. 491). In '53, the number was dropped - presumably because of the increase in hp - and only the H continued in the medallion.
Condition of the lettering on the speedo and clock suggest that the dash had a good bit of exposure to sun at some point. But rest of dash is presentable. Wonder how much of it is original versus redone.

I'd just like to put in my "two cents": almost every Hornet one sees advertised any more has a "7X engine" in it & probably 99% of all the "7X engines" extant are ones created by Hudson aficionados with aftermarket parts from guys like Clifford. Some of the latter may put out more h.p. than the actual factory ones due to enhanced options Clifford offered such as special heads, carburetion systems, exhaust systems such as headers, etc.
So I think my point here is I think most guys refer to any souped up or highly modified Hornet engine as a "7X engine" but they've been made up from stock blocks and are not one of the VERY rare ones the factory offered and NEVER installed in a car.
I'm sure most of you will concur.0 -

I'm still waiting for a step-down with a "Smoky Yunik tuned-308". :woohoo: Somebody is bound to come up with that one one of these days.
I'm still looking for a 1953 Commodore Eight to show up - only been waiting for 30 years!!
