Niels I Have a standard TS-4 for my 53. I believe they are the same. Can NAPA cross reference?

The '48, '49 & '50 Hudson six used a very different temp sender than the '51 thru '55 - The hole the sender screws into is quite a bit larger than that of the later "wide block" sixes. If you can find a cooperative employee in a parts store, take the old sender with you and they should be able to locate a replacement.

Jerry, thanks for the heads up. Where in the master parts catalog is the sending unit located? I have not been able to find it so that I can see if the parts numbers match. The old swaps book that I have does not list them at all. Ron

I found it in the engine H section. You are right the 48-50 use part# F159058. The 51-55 use F304502. Back to the original question...
  • Thanks for the replies.... didn't know the units were different.

Neils, when you get an answer please respond back so others can list the new numbers.

Good luck finding what you're looking for. If Dave Kostanek doesn't have it, then it probably is impossible to find. I think I got mine from Ken Ammons, but I'm not sure. It could have been the other guy in NY whose name escapes me right now. I think it was his last one.

I've been looking ever since this post started and finally found my old list of part numbers. The number I have for Temperature Sending Units, 1939 thru 1950 is Guaranteed Parts Co. No."TSU28" (this was a good number back in 1988). I'm not sure this information will do us any good at this time, but it is at least a number to try to trace back thru current parts interchange books.

I sure hope you're right about this part number as I just ordered the last one from Rock Auto as a wholesaler closeout. Apparently it's the same part for a the 1966-68 Ford Bronco, etc. In any event, these puppies are selling on ebay for 24.99. I'm not telling what I paid for this one.
  • I called NAPA and they crossed Guaranteed Parts Co. No."TSU28" to TS6153. Price $9.49 plus tax. It looks like it will work, but I have not tried it.

    ooo

Okay, you beat it out of me. I bought the last TSU28 for $3.40 plus shipping. Came to a little over seven bucks. It should be here tomorrow.
  • Yup... took my old one down to Napa and TS6153 is what we found that worked. Al Saffron was dead on when I called him. He thought a Ford unit would work... damn, he is smart! My temp guage still doesn't work so probably is the wire....
