Helen & I attended a multi make car show today here in Sydney Australia in our 1942 Hudson Two Door Brougham which we have owned for 22 years.

There were over 300 cars on show and we walked away with a trophy for
Car of the show in the
Original/Restored or unmodified category.

Hudson's do it again, got to keep the flag flying.

    Yes, congratulations all around.

You know, (here I go preaching again) some people like to win trophy's with their Hudsons. Fortunately our founding fathers from the git-go realized that competition for trophy's wasn't the way to go with the Hudson club. We probably wouldn't have lasted this long if they had.

My point is (I'll get there) if you like to win trophies with your Hudson you got to get them out to shows other than Hudson meets. On the other side of the coin maybe a majority of Hudson club members aren't interested in trophys so keep their cars at home in the garage, bringing them out for HET meets only. But the down side of that is lack of exposure and not bringing new members in. Go to Brand-X shows and preach the gospel of HET - we can get new members this way.

I know about the tradition of not judging in Hudson meets and agree with it, but darn it, it is nice to have something to hang on the wall.

There's a 50's type diner named "Scotty B's" in the town I grew up in. Proprietor (Scotty B, of course) has a car show every year in his parking lot. Took my '50's style custom '48 coupe one year. As I got out after one of his helpers directed me in parking, the helper commented "and, we have a winner." I didn't say anything- thought he was being facetious, because my car doesn't gleam like many others- its a "survivor".

Got a plaque, and as I'm walking to the car, I see the same guy again, and he says with a big smile, "See, I told ya." Turns out Scotty has unique judging criteria: No "best" this or that- he just has 20 plaques made, then walks around with a clip board and picks out his favorite 20 cars, and they get a plaque. Never any explanation as to why he liked it. And he loves period pieces from the 50's.

Somehow, I think Merrit Marks would approve. :)
