50 Flathead "Not Wanted"

I intended this as a new thread but somehow screwed that up, so now I'm setting this up here.

I am in the process of rodding my 50 Pacemaker. I do not need the flathead, tranny, or drivemaster unit. Its a matching number motor, but isn't going to do me much good. Anyone want to make an offer? I'm a diet pepsi addict! lol I'd like to see it go to someone who could really use it (maybe its their first car and they don't have alot of money) and isn't just stock piling them. It supposedly (according to the guy I bought it from) has 2 or 3 broken head bolts (they have been left in the head so I'm not sure which ones are busted off. It has the bracket for an a/c compressor (also have. but probably no good) and the aftermarket a/c unit inside. Car sat non-running for 10 years, but in a garage. I am keeping the dash switch for the drivemaster tough.....I'll use it to operate something.

Just as a side question.......I have rust thru on the front splash of the front fenders were they turn down behind the front bumper. Can one get replacement pieces for the fenders or do you have to repair the fenders as is? I see that there seems to be a different piece to the lower front section of the front bumpers, but mine was repainted and the seam was filled in.

  • Jay, If your Pacemaker has the origional factory fender intact, the fender extension was spot welded into place. When the time came for replacement, the spot welds were broken and a new fender extension was bolted into place. So the short answer is yes they are replaceable. The correct part number would be 223012 or 223013 depending which extension was needed, right or left. These were for the 1950 Pacemaker only. The caveat here is that you may find your car has the extensions bolted on already, behind the filled in seams. Hudson was famous for their exceptions so all I'm giving you is a GENERAL guide. Good luck.
  • Thanks Hudzilla,

I'll keep those numbers handy. No, there are no bolts on the inside (which had me confused) so you must be correct on the spot welds. I'm gonna try and contact Al in AZ here for the parts. I'll see if he has some other front pieces, the flat metal along the sides of my radiator support are almost all rusted out as well as other small pieces around that area.

    Hi Jay,

No replacement pieces that I know of - I did see 2 of the lower valance pieces on ebay a while back. The body and fender parts book I have shows the pieces were available seperately but they were spot welded to the car from the factory.

If I had an english wheel and planishing hammer I'd make some up for you! But alas those tools will have to wait until I get a place with a shop.

Send me some pictures of the rust areas and maybe I can make some suggestions on how to go about fixing it - unless you had someone to do it already.

    Peace
