I need to remove the inside door and windown handles from my 35 Terraplane. I pushed the escutcheons back and see a pin through the handle. Do you drive these pins out to remove the handles?

You should be able to take a small punch or awl and push the pins out. They were not a driven type of pin.

  • Exactly... the door handle pins are not tapered so generally come out pretty easy.

HERE IS A PHOTO OF A LARGE PERMA PINE BOX I USE TO SIT MY SPARE MOTORS IN - UPRIGHT AND OFF THE GROUND. ON TOP OF THE BOX IS A SIMPLE HOME MADE TOOL TO MAKE THE REMOVAL OF THE DOOR HANDLES VERY EASY. USE YOUR STOMACH TO PUSH THE TOOL AGAINST THE DOOR HANDLE AND YOUR HANDS ARE THEN FREE TO REMOVE THE PIN.

I push the door panel back with one hand to compress the spring behind it whilst pulling the door handle out slightly with the other hand. I use a small drift held between my teeth to knock the pin out. This procedure involves a lot of grunting and occasional cursing.
The tool seems to be a better idea.

Thanks for the tip on the tool. I'll make one up.

If you damage the escutcheon behind the handle whilst removing/reinserting the pin (it's quite easy to do so - I know!), you can use an escutcheon from a Citroen Traction Avant interior handle. It's the same size and shape. You can get nice repros from the Depanauto website.
