'46 pickup WIND WINGS
Making great progress on my '46 pickup. Have the interior dismateled and ready for paint. Need to replace all the bubbled glass which brings up the problem. How is a wind wing removed so that the rubber can be replaced. Now the big GOTCHA is that the upper pivot pin is broken off on the passengers side, and am not quite sure about its removal. Any help here. I also have a extra front clip, doors, and a fair amount of front trim pieces.....Byron

Here's a couple of pics that may help.
There are 2 screws holding the wing frame in. One is just down and slightly right from where the frame goes down into the door. The other is about 10 inches below it and secures an angled bracket that is part of the wing frame.
To remove the glass frame, separate it at the top rear corner by grinding out the rivet. That will allow you to spring it open far enough to remove the top pivot so you can raise the frame and get the lower one out.
Now, if your top pin is broken, try and get the piece out, then cut the remainder off the glass frame and drill it and fashion and fasten a new pin.
Or ask somebody here if they have an extra one. Should be some around as the cars had the same thing.0 -
Hey Uncle Josh:
Nephew Byron here, and many thanks for your windwing pics, and especially your quick responce. The rivet you spoke of was hidden by rust. I guess I try to drill out the hinge pin, although not quite sure how to jig it up in the Bridgeport to be secure enought for a deep drill. It might take me to a point of "no return" er replacement.....Byron0 -
I have two new wings and a rear glass if your interested. I had them cut this summer and ended up using smoked glass instead. The price is right, I don't need them and would rather see them used.
Your truck looks pretty solid, more details?

Hey Matt:
Thanks for your replay, and I would be interested in at least considering your offer + shipping. It seems like everything I'm interested in is on the other side of the world, and costs more to ship it than I would pay for it. I live in San Jose Ca. which means your probably in Maine ha ha. Anyway let me know what you would need for your goodies + the rest of the glass if you have it.....Byron0 -
Matt:
Forgot to mention anything about the truck itself. I'm the 3rd owner and know the other owners. The guy I bought it from acquired it in '48 and used it as a company gofor truck. He and the origional owner used to build and race Hudsons in the early '50s and were quite successful. This truck is build up as I would have built it if I had bought a stock truck. That the reason it took me so ling to find what I wanted, as I didn't want to hack up a nice truck. This truck came with a midly build 308 Hornet engine with a dual range hydro and the later front brakes. It was extremely well cared for, as it was the company babe and was the local truck to beat in its day. The only rust problem is in the lower drivers door. The fellow i bought it from still has a lot of Hudson parts in his back shead including a 7X motor I'm bartering on. I just finished installing a 'vintage air' system and am looking for a dual shev crank pulley to complete the A/C system. Don't know anybody with one of these do you. The interior is about ready for color now, and then comes the installation of the glass......Byron0 -
I'll ship the two wings and the rear glass for $40 total, I don't need them sitting here any longer. Sorry, I don't have a pulley for sale.
Keep us updated with some pics as the truck comes around.
