Bad news
Last week Jerry, a friend of mine, asked me to change brakes on a car of a friend of his. When we arrived, his friend turned out to be the famous catoonist Tom Medley the creator of the Stroker McGurk cartoons. The car (not Hudson) was a beautiful 40 Ford street rod. It had a mustang front suspension. Changed the calipers, pads and front brake hoses. Back like new. I have a new friend. He is not shy, loves to talk. He is a very remarkable individual. He is in his 90's and sharp as a tac. I was amazed to hear about many factets of his achievements. As we were about to leave he said wait a minute. He went into the house and came out with Stroker McGurk T-shirts for us. He took us inside to show us his home. It was like walking into a Stroker McGurk museum.
The sad news. I receive a email; "Last night showing Tom Medley's 40 Ford. The fire happened as he was trying to start it this afternoon. The car and garage are totaled."
I do not know how to transfer this email picture to the forum. If someone can show me how to do this I will post the picture of the burned 40 Ford inside the burned out garage.
This is a sad day for this to happen to such a nice guy.

sorry for his loss.0 -
Went through a garage fire when I was 23 and even though I only lost tools/equipment I was a wreck for almost a year. Tom is such a hot rodding icon I'm sure the troops will rally to his aid. I can't imagine dealing with this at 91 but at least he wasn't
injured.Everything else can be replaced...
And to try to have an upbeat note here's Tom and his coupe in happier days0 -

Today the Jalopy Journal featured featured Tom Medley and the recent fire as it's daily story. Within that feature was a link to a car mag's recent story about Tom.0 -

When someone like that's owned a car for so long, it's like losing a part of themselves.0
