"There is a problem and I need your help or a Hudson owner help. I cant for the life of me figure out how the springs mount on the gas door to hold it open and closed. I have the 2 springs you got new. I have tried installing them every way I can see but I still cant get it it open correctly. Do you have any pictures of a
gas door open that shows the 2 springs installed correctly? Or can you ask of member if they have any from there cars?"

  • One problem you may be having is there is a top and a bottom spring. They are not the same - mirror image of each other.

    Maybe this will help some.

I have the same problem with my 50 Pacemaker although I have one spring that works. I have not been able to get the other spring to work correctly so it just sits inside to gas door and looks at me like I'm stupid. I have noticed that the spring that does work has two turns and the one that does not work has three turns. I'm sure that has something to do with it not working.

I just use the one spring on the bottom location, as well. I had the same issues, couldn't get it to function right with two. Actually, after having it this way for several years now, I'm glad I only have one spring. Two makes it pretty difficult to open the door. Seems like overkill.

I tried to post a picture of my door springs, but for some reason the forum site will not accept the attachment. Look at Johns spring, now flip it over and move it to the top, so that the spring coil is outward when the door is open. On the lower spring push one end through the outer bracket hole from the bottom and on the top spring one end is inserted through the outer bracket hole through the top down. Simply stated, both ends of the spring( either end) point at each other on the outer bracket. Just attach the inner bracket holes and their ends will be pointed away from each other. When you close the door the springs pivot so that they will rest close to the door hinge. I have been set up for 20 years like this. It works perfectly. Ron
