Breaker Points Available Locally?
Just for fun I went to my local parts store and ordered breaker points for my '37 (#AL5661, "Blue Streak"). Generally I prefer to buy parts like this from Hudson vendors 'cause they generally "know their stuff". But there's always the chance I'll break down somewhere on the road and not have a spare set, and I want to know if the points would be available in a pinch.
The '37 Hudsons (and maybe later models as well) had a 2-piece breaker point set: breaker point screw and the breaker arm incorporating the other point. The new point set had only the arm. Apparently the parts store can't obtain the separate point screw.
Has anyone else experienced this? Do any manufacturers continue to supply a complete point set in 2 parts? Fortunately, we can still get these through Hudson and antique auto sources via mail order, but apparently they're no longer available through local part stores.

In some of the the old parts books I have from the 30's & 40's that was the way they were suppiled. You were sold the arm in one box .And any one of several lenght screw's for the other side.

Jon,
My Echiin book (NAPA) lists CS709 for 30 to 47 Hudson. Give them a try.

Thanks, Bruce. Actually, I gave that part number (and several others) to my (non-NAPA) local parts place, when I ordered the points.
Have you ever seen these (the ones you recommend) and do they have both parts?0 -
Jon, I have the NAPA set in my 46 They come with both pieces0

I shall note that. Thank you!0

Jon, the picture in my book shows only the moveable contact.
