Looking for an easy way to post pictures on the forum. I use photobucket. Is there an easier way to explain to some of the guys who are not use to "driving" around in a modern computer.
Let's help these guys get their pictures up...slim

IF THE PHOTO EXISTS SOMEWHERE ON THE INTERNET
(Like, you see it when surfing Google...)

    1. Click on NEW TOPIC or REPLY (to existing thread or post) -- depending on what you want to do.

    2. Type your message and then -- when you get to where you want to post the photo -- click the IMAGE LINK icon at the top of the Boardcode part of the message window. That's the brownish box, and the icon is the 7th from the right at the very top of the brown box. (Not counting those double vertical bars of course) Hold your cursor over the various icons and it should tell you what they are.

    3. Now you have a couple of new white windows just under the icon. You need to put the IMAGE URL into the right one, including the http stuff. To find out the URL for the photo you want to post, merely hold your cursor over the photo and right-click. A window opens. Left-click on COPY IMAGE LOCATION and the URL of the image will then be "remembered" by your computer.

Now put your cursor on the IMAGE URL box, and right-click. Then left-click on PASTE in the box. Or go to your EDIT drop-down at the top of your screen and click PASTE there. The URL should appear in the small righthand box.

4.Now click the INSERT button in the brownish box. When you've finished your message click SUBMIT as you normally would. The photo may not appear right away but after you've posted the message it should be visible.

If it is NOT, then you may have copied a photo from a website that does not allow its photos to be reprinted. That's not uncommon.

IF THE PHOTO IS ONLY IN YOUR COMPUTER

Below the message box is the ATTACHMENTS window. Click on the white window there, or on ADD FILE, and a small window appears with your computer filing system. Navigate around til you find where you stored the photo (probably ends in ''jpg'') and click on it. (If you don't know how to navigate around your filing system you're in bad shape. Bribe a 3-year-old with a lollipop and he or she will teach you how to do it.) The file name of the photo should now appear in the white Attachments window. Then click ADD FILE and it should appear in your message, though you may not see it until after you click SUBMIT.

Someone will no doubt add some helpful things that I've forgotten.

This may be easier than photobucket but I am getting a "image is too large" note. Photobucket automatically resizes if necessary. Any comments?

Just tried it...worked for me! Possibly the photo size is too large, in your photo? Not sure why it's not working.

You might try posting a photo that's less than 100kb (your filing system tells the size to the right side, so long as you have "views" set for "details" on your Windows Explorer file thingie.)
  • Thanks Jon. Works for me too. Just trying to figure out why Lee's pictures don't show...slim

He could send the jpg. image to you or me, and we could try posting them. Again, it might be a file size that's too large for this system...or there could be something wrong with the file. My email address is XXXdetailed@verizon.net , remove the X's before sending.

Test photo from new canon to see if it is the camera setting.

OK it must have someting to do with the new camera. Because the old pictures from the Kodac camera I can still post but not pictures from the canon camera.

The canon pictures after moveing them into photo bucket will post.

Thank you denverslim and JonB for helping me with the lessons.

The Kodac digital pictures are in the 700's KB range
The Cannon digital pictures are in the 1.29 MB to 3.9 MB range

What is the best setting to be able to post pictures on the forum?

Also, how do I delete all those post where pictures didn't show?

    Thanks for your help.

Lee, the smaller the photo (in file size) the better the chances it will post. So I'd say that there is nothing wrong with the Canon, it's just set so that it gives you a high resolution (and LARGE file) photo. You can fix the setting so that it gives somewhat less resolution (which will allow you to shoot more photos before the camera gets full).

Once you upload the photos to your computer, you can change everything (size of picture, resolution, etc.) using one of your picture programs. So you could keep a photo of a particular car as a high-resolution one (for the purpose of making a nice enlarged paper print) and then do a low-resolution version of the same, to post on the internet or wherever.

As to how to delete unwanted posts: I can't really tell you because, as a moderator, I have a number of "bells and whistles" that other people do not, so I can't tell whether you have the same buttons as I. But, under each post there are a number of buttons (REPLY, QUICK REPLY, QUOTE, etc.) and among them should be an EDIT and even maybe a DELETE. If you don't have the DELETE, do you have an EDIT button? Try pushing that, and a new window will open. MAYBE there is a "delete" button in that window. Beyond that, I can't tell you how to delete your own messages because I myself don't know!
  • The "delete" button shows up sometimes, but most often not, I've found. You can get rid of a picture or "most" of a message by using the "edit" button then backspacing out all but one or two letters. This will get rid of all but the remaining letters of the message. If I try to edit out the last of the letters, it won't let me, going to default. Thus, there is still a couple of messages with one or two letters...slim
  • Ahh, the cost of "improvement"...slim

I'm beginning to the get the hang of photobucket Slim. My daughter inlaw stopped by yesterday and I said how long it was taking me to add one photo at a time. She showed me the bulk uplosding location. I just clicked on all the pictures I wanted and they uploaded all at once. What was becoming a chore for me as become a blessing.

I'll read the cannon manual to see if there is a way to change the settings.

Since you like flat head Fords, I'll share my uncle's 42 project.

    Thanks
