car cover
I am about to make a choice on purchasing a car cover for my son's car and was wondering if anyone can recommend a really durable good brand of cover. It will be stored outside and has a new paint job. I'm not looking for a cheap cover but I don't want to buy a cover costing a house payment either.

Lance, Make sure it is soft lined as not to scratch or cause abrasions to the paint. It needs to be water proof, not just water resistant and preferably with elastic at each end to pull nicely around the bumpers, with loops at the center for a cable to keep the cover centered. Also a zipper door is nice to be able to enter the car without needing to remove the whole cover. I had one years ago, that when in a heavy rain, Water got through the cover acted like a sponge, and entered the car seals and soaked the carpets. Fortunately, I saw the wet carpets the next morning and took action. I bought my present one on line, made for my stepdown, so it covers ALL of the body almost to the ground. About $200 if I remember. Ron0

95% of all the car covers you see advertised under assorted "house" names are actually manufactured by Covercraft Industries in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma in a huge, efficient plant. I've had the tour of it. Amazing.
If you want to email or speak with a car hobbyist who has been selling Covercraft covers for several decades, who is a warehouse distributor and can give you a very competitive price as well as discuss your exact storage conditions and needs, I suggest you contact John Lazenby at Royze, Inc. john@royze.com Start with an email and go from there. Obviously state your exact make, year, model, body style. John has both CC's universal fit covers in numerous materials, or can custom fit the car like a glove (costs more of course).
John has sold me several covers over the years! Total satisfaction.

I have bought several from California Car Cover since the mid 1990's and have always been very pleased with the product. I bought one last Spring for my wife's Acura that sits out and was amazed by the fit and the fact that it actually sheds water keeping the car dry. Give them a call and tell them what your requirements are and they will fix you up. Not cheap but definitely worth the money. 1-800-423-5525.0

Thanks gents for your input. I had bought a California Car Cover in 1999 for my stepdown and it has worked fine up until this year. It's garaged except for the occasional time the garage door is lifted up during a weekend or whenever . Well this year all went well until I started getting tears on the rear of the car that is normally exposed to sunlight when the door on the garage is open. Guess the sun light and UV have finally taken their toll. Time for a new cover. Ron, you're right about getting a soft but breathable cover . This one was great until about 6 months ago. My son's car has a new paint job (EXPENSIVE) that he wants to protect outside so I am going to need a really durable cover. I had heard of Covercraft in Oklahoma but did not know that you have to go through dealers to obtain one. Might try a local dealer for that one. Thanks again guys for your input.0

Lance,
Go with the California Car Cover Noah. 4 year warranty and car stays totally dry even in rain. I have one for my 442 my 55 F-100 and my Hornet. Haven't used the Hornets yeat as you know it is being painted. My Noah finally gave up on my Dakota and it was 7 years old. Sometimes it is out side and sometimes it gets to be in the garage. Depends on the rotation lol. Was going to order a new one but my Dad has been known to give me one for Christmas so waiting till after Christmas for a new one for it lol0 -
