    Good morning Alex

That is good news. I'll be eager to read the first WTN issue and the missing ones I do not have.

I want to thank you as well as all others that have taken on the task of preserving and makeing available Hudson information on line. And also, reminding us periodically of the links. I've found it to be most rewarding. But I still like reading your book. I know where to find it. he he

    Thanks again

I don't normally repost things like this but I thought I would because there's a lot of misinformation about the USPS out there in the media right now and why they're raising their rates. It is not that they're not competitive in the information age. Likely they're under attack from Fed Ex and UPS lobbyists.

LETTER: Pre-funded pension is USPS problem
LETTER: Pre-funded pension is USPS problem

I was astounded at the recent poll results about eliminating Saturday delivery of mail as a means of "saving the USPS"! I did not realize that there were so many persons who don't know or don't care about the impact of that.

President Obama indicates he wishes to create jobs. Eliminating Saturday delivery of mail would eliminate nearly one-sixth of 200,000 city carriers. It would also cripple the USPS by the loss of mailing clients because of an inability to deliver products and publications on Saturday.

The root problem which needs to be promptly addressed is the mandate in the Postal Accountability Act which President George W. Bush signed into law in 2006 which requires the USPS to pre-fund 75 years' worth of future retiree health benefits in only 10 years!

Without this mandate, the USPS would have shown a profit during the past four years.

The "Big Lie" is that "The Postal Service is going bankrupt." Actually, Washington politics is killing it.

The common sense solution to immediate problems would be the passage of HR 1351, introduced by Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA)last April. If passed, it would allow USPS to transfer its massive pension surpluses (determined to amount to between $50 billion and $75 billion by two independent audits) to cover the cost of prefunding the future retiree health benefits.

Don't neglect the fact that the USPS has not budgeted a dime of taxpayer money for more than a quarter of a century. The USPS has conducted a profitable business, making a net profit of $611 million during the last four fiscal years, despite the recession.

No other federal agency or private enterprise has been saddled with such an aggressive pre-funding burden.

Unfortunately the USPS addresses the issue by wanting to slash the postal workforce by 120,000 employees.

The position that business has been lost to the internet is not completely accurate. The same persons who pay bills online, order online, and those goods must be delivered.

Did you know that the USPS provides "last mile" delivery for Federal Express and United Parcel Service? The USPS can do it more inexpensively due to the extent of its universal network.

The USPS is the central element in a $1.3 trillion U.S. mailing industry that supports 7 million to 8 million private sector jobs.

Good for you Aaron. Follow the money. Polititions rely on contributions. The contributors have access to elected oficials and the elected officials owe them. Find out who the contributors are and you can predict the way they will vote. This explains the gridlock in Congress. Its not any single persons fault, but the system forces otherwise good souls into fundraisers. Sorry about the Debbie Downer, but knowledge is power.

If someone can check with the Nash Club how they do it. It is a much smaller club and their bi-monthly magazine is both mailed and ONLINE.

The comments about this subject are interesting. Yet, I found myself even more curious about Sam's new "avatar" What happened to poor old Charlie Brown  The new avatar certainly seems to depict the harried life of an editor.

The USPS delivers our WTN in good shape. UPS or FedEx could also deliver it although I fear it might be like some of the packages they leave at our doorstep ... ripped, smashed, soaked

Finally got the latest W.T.N. today. Postmarked "Direct" N.Z. Post, as well as First class airmail U.S.Post. Seems it could have got here faster by steamer.

You are doing better than me Geoff - looks like I might get it as an Xmas present!!
I'd be pleased to get it via the internet but would still want a hard (glossy) copy.

Perhaps a solution, at least down under, would be to find a sub-contractor publisher in either Austraila or New Zeland. Send the DVD to the sub and have it published and mailed down there.

If that's not practical how about a bulk mailing to someone in Austraila or New Zealand for futher mailing to members down there.

    Just a couple thoughts.

The assessment of the club is really not chere with as many services and usability, France must pay more than 100 $... .and without the advantages that we have here
