WAS TOLD TODAY THAT MY EXHAUST MANIFOLD CANT BE FIXED. EVERY TIME HE WELDS IT, IT CRACKS SOMEWHERE ELSE. DOES ANYONE HAVE A GOOD ONE OUT THERE? 1936 TERRAPLANE 212 ALL STOCK THANKS

    Try "Clutch Guy" Doug Wildrick for the manifold ... hetdrdoug96@comcast.net (drop the "het" for actual address). It appears you needed someone who knows how to weld cast iron manifolds in order to salvage yours. Such folks are geting hard to find.

    I would recommend Midwest Cylinder Head in Nevada, Iowa. (515) 382-2791. There are experts on welding cast iron. At the very least you can ship to them and get a quote. You might be able to find one but a use one might be in the same condition. We may get to a place where repair is the only option.

    We had a welder in our area that would bolt the manifold
    to a steel plate and heat it in an oven,than weld it with
    cast iron ( nickle ? ) rod. He would give a gaurantee against cracking.
    He has passed on , but you might look for some one that uses this procedure.

    That is the only way to weld cast metal (heat it to proper temp first). Bolting it down keeps everything in place. I'm a ceritfied welder but retired now and dont have that equipment at home or I'd offer to help. Look around you will find someone who knows what they are doing,

    If it helps, the manifolds are the same for 1934-35-36. I can probably find you one here, but freight would expensive from New Zealand.

    I have welded old manifolds by preheating in a BBQ then wraping it in insulation
    then placing it back in the BBQ and bringing the tempature down gradually. This works most the time, but somtimes still get cracks.
    But I have found a welding rod made for welding on old cast material that has the carbon burnt out of it or contaminated with oil or paint.
    The amazing thing is that you do not preheat!I have used this rod serveral times on oil soaked cast and it work just fine.
    I have tried to post the info sheet, hope it comes thru.
    The rod is a 3/32 rod AC/DC Reverse (electrode+)
    It is a Habco Welding Alloy Product #CI 885

    I FOUND THIS MANIFOLD IN MY PARTS STASH.. CANT FIND OR SEE ANY CRACKS,,DOES IT LOOK LIKE WHAT YOU NEED? THE "TERR. SUPER6" WAS ON IT WHEN I GOT IT,YEARS AGO..
