How to match the color!
hey ya'll. I'm a first time poster, long time reader. I've got a 47 Hudson Commodore six that I am doing a full resto on. I have been ready to paint for 2 months now, but I can't seem to get anywhere with color matching. My paint code is JB. I've called dupont and they said that they can give a close match but non-metalic. I've had the color "shot" with a color camera, and can't match either. What are you guys doing to get the correct colors on your hudsons? Thanks

JB is two tone option
Belvedere Blue 10463
(Upper)
Jefferson Blue 10465
(Lower)
10463 & 10465 are Ditzler numbers that your supplier should be able to match0 -
Take a chip to someplace that sells Sikens paint and they will analyze it and formulate a paint to match. At least they did for my 48 commodore 8 some years ago.

Thanks, I'll try those. The dupont chips and numbers I have they couldn't do anything with. Meanwhile, does anyone know if this car from Ron's Hot Rods is supposed to be the correct color, or what color it may actually be. http://ronshotrods.blogspot.com/ I can't find any info on how to contact him to find out. Thanks again0

Trust me,
The paint code will NOT match unless it was shot yesterday. Best way if you're trying to match panels or just want some touch up paint:
Take off a small panel from your car (the gas lid door is a good suspect) and take it to a GOOD automotive paint shop. If they know their stuff, they will get it pretty perfect. The good guys don't just use the color match camera.. that's only step one, then they will do a couple of test and dry swatches to get it perfect.
I've had great results with this on many occasions0 -
Don't know if they still can, but Hibernia in the recent past could supply accurate original colors based on the original numbers but with modern tints.

Perhaps soon this cross reference paint chart will be expanded to earlier than 1948. Y'all write a note to them and request it and it will happen.

I have you need. 1947 Hudson Color Bulletin number 11. It shows both colors you need along with mixing formula. If you give me your mailing address I will copy and mail to you.0

a PPG dealer can call the factory office. They have most original color factory chips in inventory. They will scan the chip, calculate the formula and provide the results to the paint dealer. I have used this method few times with great success.0
