gas gauge sending unit for a '35 t-plane
i just saw the article by geoff clark in the latest WTN. geoff says the sender is identical from '34 into the '50's. is this correct for the U.S. models? i thought i needed to find a king-seeley sending unit from '34-'35 for my car. the sender for my car is corroded out. thanks. regards, tom

I believe I've heard that the Ford senders (from the late thirties to early fifties, during the "six volt positive ground" era, will fit. You have to bend the wire to adapt the float height to the Hudson tank, of course. I'm not sure what year of Hudson that interchangeability starts, though.0

I put a nos stepdown sender in the tank of a 37 Hudson8..Fit and worked perfect..Like Jon said. had to bend the wire that holds the float..0

hello jon, thanks for the reply. i was familiar with the ford compatibility..i have a ford in there now...but it really does not work as it should...it has been a couple of years since i did this repair..so the details are a bit fuzzy..but the gist of it is there is a difference in the internal circuitry between the king-seeley and the ford units. the ford units have the correct hole pattern to bolt in..but the original unit works ...the ford unit will cause the gauge needle to move but you really cannot call it "working".
i got excited when i saw geoff's article as i thought i had new source for a drop in sender.

One thing I've learned about Hudsons over the many years I've been playing around with them, more or less, parts interchangeability of parts that will "drop in" outside of the Hudson family are scarce.
There is considerable parts interchange within the Hudson family, simply because Hudson cut costs that way.
There are two parts interchange books in the online library - a 1927-1939 and a 1927-1950 Numerical Parts Interchange book. These are all Hudson parts interchanges.

One thing I need to clarify - the principle of operation is the same from '34 thru '50, that is they use a bi-metal unit in both the gauge and the tank unit. However, this does not mean that the actual units are interchangeable between all models. Sorry for the misunderstanding. From '51 onwards they changed the gas gauge units to voltage regulated bi-metal gauges and resistance units in the tank.

geoff, thank you for the information and all you do to help us keep these great cars on the road and out of the garage.
alex, i will check the interchange manual. thank you
regards, tom
if i am reading it correctly, i see from the hudson interchange manual (thank you alex!!) that sender part number F 159110 works for all 1936- 1947 automobiles. it looks like F 47091 is unique to the '35's.0 -
If n e one has a sending unit for a 35 pick up i could use one. cheers:(0
