8 Cyl Water Pump Question

Dave, the interchange book says you can't use the '47 and earlier 8-cyl pump on a '48 or later, so one would assume the reverse is also true.0

It may have to do with the fan blade hub and where its positioned on the shaft. Seems to mee the pump looks the same but maybe the radiator spacing is not?

Dave Kostansek's out of the business now, but I bet he can tell you.0

The problem that I was presented with was...A Member has a 47 with a stepdown engine. The water pump needs replacement. Which one does he buy???0
-
Might contact the 8cyl expert listed in the WTN . I've spoken to him before but dont recall his name. And I dont have a WTN handy,

The water pumps are interchangeable for all 8's and 6's 1936 thru 1947, and these come up regularly on ebay, so that's the way to go in my opinion. I don't have a '48-'52 pump here to compare, but they use different internals using a double row ball race instead of plain bushings. Not sure if they are the same mounting.

Dave, if it's a stepdown engine, he should buy the water pump for '48 ff.0
