This car is suppose to be a 1917 Hudson with a custom body, is it?

That is either a classy body design, or it is melting.

Looking at the head lights splash apron and fenders, it looks like my 17. More pictures would help, but I say yes.

They were all so much alike thru those years it's really hard to tell from just a side view. About the only way to tell for sure would be if there was a serial number available, tho not in this case.

There's a picture of a 1917 in my General Info Handbook that looks similar to your picture along the beltline. You can see that picture by going to the online library at:
http://hetclub.org/burr/lithomepage.htm - the Handbook is in the "Other Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Literature section.

I don't recall seeing a picture of those wheels, either, so can't determine anything with those.

What coachbuilding company is said to have created this? And in what country? By the curves I'm guessing French origin.

Page 41 of the Butler book shows a 1917 4 passenger Speedster that looks very similar, wire wheels too.

Yes, it is 1917 Hudson. Here is Factory Photo of a 1917 Speedster.

Looks like a stock '17 to me. Just with a custom top and the door handles turned 90 degrees.

I don't have a '17 but I think the door hinges were probably painted out in the photo of the black one?
