  • Under the dash if you look up at the wiper base ther is a bolt and clamp (7/16 I think). That is what holds the base down just remove bolt. On the firewall is the tensioner assembly where cable turns 90 degres . That is just bolted to fireall. Unbolting either of these will releave tension on cable and allow ends to be released from notch in vacume motor arm.

  • On each able wheel unit at each side of the firewall where the cables are turned to go into dash, take a 1/2 inch socket on a rachet wrench and loosen the nut and the spring will release and move wheels in, and relock nuts. now remove bolts on wiper motor and turn cables out to release from motor. Reverse to install and make sure you keep cables on correct wheels. Walt.
  • Thanks for the information. I was thinking I would take the cables off at the transmission... is this possible? What I'd like to do is get the transmission housing re-chromed if stripping the mechanism isn't too much trouble.
  • Ok , well basicly no they were throw away items. But that being said so were most car parts. So depending on your skill level and tools on hand the rivot used as an axle can be removed. And the unit taken apart. You can still find NOS ones at the swap meets and Ebay . But they are getting expenxsive,

  • there several for sale on ebay now, probably cheaper and less work than taking your's apart for rechroming. make sure they are the proper one's for your car.
  • Thanks for the tips, I got some used, recabled transmissions om ebay for $40 and the plating on them is'nt too bad.
