YES I KNOW THE CAR IT WAS OWNED BY CHUCK RODGERS IN THE 60'S AND 70'S IN THE 80'S IT WAS SOLD TO BILL ALBRIGHT WHO LOANED IT TO A LAUGHLIN NV. CASINO OWNER WHO SHOWED THE CAR FOR A FEW YEARS IT WAS THEN SOLD TO A GUY IN CA. WHO HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT AND HAD EVERY THING GONE OVER IT AWAS SHIPPED TO THE AUCTION AT HERSHEY IN THE 90'S AND WAS BOUGHT BY MAN NAMED ED BROWN FROM APOLLO PA. HE SOLD IT AT THE HERSHEY SHOW 4 YEARS AGO AND THE GUY IN FL. WHO NOW OWNS IT BOUGHT IT THERE
  • That car originally had 4 lug wheels, and I see it has 1936 5 lug wheels on, front and rear. Some modifications had to be done to install those wheels. Should have the swing axle also. A lot of questions should be asked. Walt.

paul, thank you very much..i would have been impressed if you would have stopped at "YES!" this is a small community...now if i was just a little brighter...with a little more ambition...i could afford the call to ask how much...LOL! thanks again. regards, tom
  • To add to Paul's excellent history on this '34s owners, it was written up in the December 1998 issue of Car & Parts magazine. The car looks better now than it did at the time of the article.

The spare tire cover on the rear is not correct for 1934 (as is the cream color - although it looks excellent!).
  • Now, THAT is one beautiful car. I'm afraid the security system of my alley garage would have to be upgraded a bit...slim
  • Its a very nice looking car I agree but is something not right with the front wheel size or something?

Sorry to rain on the parade but this isn't a Challenger.
The Challengers only had 3 hood doors per side. They also didn't have an automatic choke or winding vent windows, nor a woodgrain dash - although I'm prepared to forgive this latter feature because if you're restoring a car, a woodgrain dash is going to look much nicer than the dark bronze paint that was actually used on Challenger dashboards.
Sorry to be a pedantic nerd about all of this but I have Norris Smith's old Hudson 8 Challenger Brougham and if he'd still been around, I'm sure he would have pointed this out to you all too.

    Also, the lights are wrong
    - The headlights on this car are DeLuxe ones
    - A Challenger shouldn't have fender lights
    - The tail lights are also from a Deluxe (Challengers had Terraplane tail lights with Hudson Lenses - and, I think, had only one tail light originally).

    It gets worse !
The grille surround wasn't chromed on a Challenger, it was painted with what Hudson called "Velchrome" - silver paint to you and me.
    No overriders on Challengers, either.

Notwithstanding all this nitpicking by me, it's a nice car and I'd love to own it. :)

I frankly don't remember what Bill did to it after he got it, but putting on "upgrades", such as the fender lights would be typical of him. Bill kept cars at 2 museums in So. Calif. on/off, the aforementioned one in Laughlin, Nv., and also at one in San Diego.
When Chuck, can't remember his last name, in San Diego bought the car, in lieu of all the mechanical work it required, some of us felt he'd paid Bill WAY more than it was worth. He had to have most of the chassis completely rebuilt - springs, bushings, trans., and as I recall rear axle. The resto shop called Buzz as they knew he was into Hudsons & Buzz called me to accompany him to this "high end" shop.
I remember I sold them some NOS parts they needed. Chuck owned a construction co., had a lot of $$$, and some big buck classic cars so it's likely he's the one who replated the grille & I know he's the one who had the paint & uph. done too putting a LOT of $$ into it. As I recall later put it up for sale but had so much into it couldn't get his price. How & to whom he eventually sold it I don't know.
  • ...and speaking of 34 convertibles, if anyone was watching Hot Rod TV on Speed this Wednesday, they did a special on the huge MOONEYES show in So Cal. At one point in the show, they show a rear shot of a green/blue 1934 Hudson Convertible going down the drag strip. It's approximately 15-20 minutes into the episode.

I did a double take and rewound the DVD half a dozen times just to re-watch it!

I heard the car was set-up for drag racing in the 50's and has a Merc engine. It's not one that I have listed in the '34 registry. Anyone know of this car? Would love to get more details!

That would be the '34 Hud 8 blue/green convertible coupe previously owned by Bill Peck. Seems to me it has an Olds V8 under the hood put there by Bill in the late 1960s. Currently still in the Peck family and drag raced on occasion.
Smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

YAH baby, he & I took it on a "Fox & Hounds" Hudson meet mucho anos ago, really "hauls a--".
His wife offered it for sale after Bill died some years ago but wanted way more for it than anyone would pay.

Found a couple of posts on the ex-Peck '34 on the HAMB. Car was eventually purchased by a non-family member from Bill's widow. The Olds has been removed and is now running a 425" Buick OHV8. Current owner, who is in SoCal says the NHRA rules require that the car be run with the top up in that class, so they do.....
