Pondering
I'm going in on Tuesday to get a new knee. I'm considering changing up my "driver hudson" situation. I'm currently driving my '54 Hornet Special Club Sedan with stick and od trans. At this stage of life, it might be easier for me to drive an automatic car and I have found a '54 Hornet Special Coupe which would fill the bill. I think I would buy it if someone was interested enough to buy my Club Sedan. I have several pictures available if anyone is interested. Feel free to email me at arkiejazz at aol dot com

Good luck on the new knee- I'm probably going to have to get one, too- tore anterior cruciate last summer, and its just not getting "right" again. Most people who have had it done are happy, after the recovery period.
Had dinner with a couple last night, the wife is going in for surgery this week. They had a novel solution for the inattention of nurses these days. Have your first visitor bring the biggest Whitman Sampler box of chocolates she can find. Open it, put it on the table where they put the flowers. Tell the nurses some story like your Aunt Bea thinks chocolate is the cure for everything- you don't even especially like them, feel free to help yourself. Word will spread, and your every need will be attended to, by the steady stream of nurses beating a path to your door. Their family has done it several times, always works.0 -
arkie; my wife had hers replaced 2 years ago, she did good, just do the thearapy

Good luck on your knee replacement Steve, will be thinking about you...Is it your CLUTCH pushing knee?. That would make it tough..Hate for you to sell the 54 broughm, its a lovely solid car, ran great when I drove it..Maybe you could drive the coupe till your knee healed, LOL...RD0

I went to the SoCal Regional meet a number of years ago, where the Hudsons were parked in the sun with the hoods open, and the drivers sat around in a pavilion in the shade. One owner commented "We used to walk around our cars and talk about our rear-end ratios, overdrives, cylinder heads, carburetors, etc. Now we sit in the shade and talk about our artificial hips, knees, arterial bypasses, and pacemakers!"0

I've had a partial knee replacement on my clutch leg. Hip replacement on the other. If you want to drive a stick, drive a stick.
Do your exercises! Then do them again.
Ice...
Then do more exercises.
Sort of like maintaining an old car....

You know if you realy like the car and know a good mechanic you can put the Hydromatic in . The hardest part is the crossmember - has to be cut out and one from a Hydromatic bolted in. Just a thought ,

You know you're getting older when you are sitting around a Hudson meet watching 3, 4 and 5 year olds playing around the cars - and realize these are the kids of the 3, 4 and 5 year olds you used to watch playing around the cars.:S

You didn't say, how did the knee surgery go, and are you going to look for an automatic to replace the HS?0 -

The knee surgery went ok, still doing the rehab. I think I'll be better off with an automatic as my daily driver on these "hilly" streets around Fayetteville. I have already found a nice '54 Hornet Special with automatic to replace the Bumble Bee. If mine doesn't sell, I'll be happy to keep it. I'm not trying to "pawn" it off on anybody. It's hard to find rust free cars like this one any more, and an unusual body style to boot.0 -

Thanks R.D. If it doesn't stop raining over here, I might need those Invader engines. I'm not trying real hard to sell the Club Sedan. As you know, I love the car. I just think the automatic car would be easier to navigate here. I really have mixed emotions about it and I'll be proud to kee the club sedan if it doesn't sell.0 -

Well, the Club Sedan sold. I am a bit surprised actually and already feeling "seller's remorse". I'm sure that will pass when the automatic coupe I'm replacing it with gets here from California. It's also a 6D, but it's a coupe with automatic. I'll post a picture when it gets here.0
