Do any of you know how the people at Hudson did the carpet when car was new. I am restoring a "54 and putting carpet in. Don't quite how to do carpet on hump in front. How did they cut carpet or lay carpet so you could check master cylinder, and transmission fluid. A photo would be great or diagram. Thanks for your help.

Here is what my installer did at my request. He cut a round piece of carpet to match the cap, put a nice naugahyde hem around the edge so the carpet won't unravel, then glued the piece to the cover cap. The naugahayde hem is the same color as the carpet so you hardly notice it. When I want to check the fluid level, I just put a small screwdriver under the cap and pop it loose. Works great. To take it a step further, have your installer do the same thing on those two caps that cover those two long bolts that fasten the transmission to the engine. If you ever need to pull the engine, it will save you a lot of grief by not having to peel back the carpet.
Good luck,
