50 Commodore Coupe on ebay

This is a bit misleading. Obviously this is a modified Hudson, but Hudson didn't make any Commodores like this. If this was a true Commodore coupe it wouldn't look like this Super Six brougham with Commodore trim. They just were not made. The only true Brougham in the higher dollar Hudson line came in 54 with the Hornet Special brougham. Why Hudson didn't make a Commodore/Hornet brougham from 48 on is a bit of a mystery but they just didn't . Pretty car, just a wee bit on the pricy side.0

Super six taillamps and deck lid handle and trim also no fender spears. Nice looking car and I like the copper and black combo.0

Very nice car, I like the tangerine gold color. However, I'd rather spend $55 grand on three or four nice stepdowns. For some reason, some hot rodders don't think an original, solid Hudson stepdown engine will do a 100 MPH.
I cruise for miles and miles at 80 ish in my 134,000 mile 48 Commodore six- smooth as can be with the original engine and overdrive, although at 90 ish, the visor looks like it is trying to do an impression of the Flying Nun.... Niels0 -
I like the side trim....
real nice.
too bad it was all put in the way wrong location...0 -
This guy can't be for real asking 55,000 dollars can he? I luv the colors and the car ,even though I'm a original type guy, but does he think someone is going to offer anything close ? I'm the first one to say that stepdowns are way undervalued by the mkt place but this is reaching. Any way I wish him luck. Maybe he thinks that it so close to Barrett Jackson and that someone will think that Boyd Cottington did it.0

1950 HUDSON COMMODORE, Brougham Hudson, very rare "The Hudson Bad Ass Legacy" [Nailed that one on the head!], completly restored [lost me here...restored means...well...restored - this is a custom], Automatic, luxury coop model, camaro 1973, clipped front end, rebuilt corvette engine, power steering, power brakes, daily driver [sorry the hack job on the inner fenders with no covering will get you a bunch of crud all over your engine compartment], 9 inch back end, she can go over 100 miles an hour [so what?], orignal classic body [except for the missing fender spears, misplaced side chrome and shaved door handles], muscle car heart, drives smooth, amazing new sub frame [1973 camaro subframe - 32 years old is new?], always garage kept, non-smoker, service records.... Asking price $55,000 will negotiate [55k wow - I hope so. But that is probably what the price would be to farm the work out and get the car where it is at]
Other than the hacked up inner fenders most of the work looks ok in the pictures - but why no pics of the trunk or underneath...hiding something?
I can hear it already "If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all...blah, blah, ya-da-ya-da..." It's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!:eek:0 -
haha... I was thinking along the same lines....
just having some fun here... don't anyone take this too seriously...
1950 HUDSON COMMODORE, Brougham Hudson, very rare yeah, since they didn't make a commodore brougham "The Hudson Bad Ass Legacy", completly restored, okay, it's modified, and made to look stock, but I'm completely done sinking money in this one... Automatic, luxury coop model, camaro 1973, clipped front end, the camaro was a luxury coupe model, automatic and a 73, that's what I am referring to... rebuilt corvette engine, power steering, power brakes, daily driver, 9 inch back end, she can go over 100 miles an hour, the corvette could, that the engine was from... orignal classic body, muscle car heart, drives smooth, amazing new sub frame, always garage kept, could never take it out, any hudson person that ever saw it made fun of how the side trim was put on, and how the inner fenders were butchered non-smoker, except for the illegal substance I was probably smoking when I came up with the price on this one service records. Please call at 714-713-xxxx for further information. Asking price $55,000 will negotiate. you better... and hope there is a lot of room in that price...0 -
Hudson did not make a Commodore 2dr with the 4 dr Sedan roof. This car started out as a SuperSsix. This 2 dr body was called a super six 2 dr Brougham. The Commodore 2 dr had the short roof called a club Coupe.0

I must say- you ad libbers got me laughing on this one! I think that I would much rather have a stock convertible for the money. I am sure that he has some money in the car, but I doubt he's going to make much money on it. I guess that people just don't understand- It's hard to make a profit on car restorations unless:
1. You do all of the work yourself
2. You absolutely stole the car and robbed a replating shop
3. You bought the car 35+ years ago when people couldn't give them away
Even when you have one of these in your favor, it's still hard to make money on them.
I do it for the love of the car, nothing else. Other investments reap higher dividends.0 -
yeah, here's one that somebody is trying to get every penny back on, or close to it. For the money, I would be out convertible shopping.
While the colors of the car are great, and the car looks like it is probably in good shape, and all of the mentioned items could be fixed, but not cheap, it is still a brougham, and you are paying a super hefty premium for a car that essentially needs a lot of work, and time to make it close to what any person interested in hudsons wants to own.
Best bet would be to remove the side trim, fill the holes, repaint. then find a set of inner fenders, and spend some time and effort and make the fit look more, well, professional. the exterior, and interior are fine. give the steering wheel back to boyd coddington, and you're set.
My guess on this one would be 9500-14500, being generous, but with the best offer buy it now, we will never know.0 -
Boy, You guys are really tough on this one!! It's not an unattractive car, but whoever set the price is just off by a multiple of 3X or so. I'd like to think the trim was raised to give better balance to the paint scheme, and not where the rust joint was to replace the lower section of sheet metal. After driving Hudson Stepdowns, I'm not sure if there's a big improvement going to a camaro subframe. I like the way they handle even w/o power steering and disc brakes kits are available. I think there is just a huge amount of $$ spent on this and someone hoping to recover as much as they can.0

Hudson never made a Commodore 8 brougham but they did make a Super 8 Brougham which they discontinued after '49 making only 1,074 Super 8's of all models in the production run. There were supposedly only 3 Super 8 models: a sedan, coupe, and brougham. I've seen 2 of these rare Super 8 sedans but I've never seen a Brougham or a coupe.0

Wow, those pork chop looks like it they are levitating. It is magic.0
-
I don't know Aaron... I thought they made Super 8's into 50 as well....
as far as those pork chops...
nope, that's not magic....
my wife can make pork chops that levitate...
hahaha...0 -
Note the feedback on the seller 82.5% I have never seen a seller with such a low rating. Check out the complaints. Buyer Beware! Not that anyone on this forum would buy this car at that price.0

I don't remember if '49 or '50 was the last production year for Super 8's
I'd have to check Butler's book but the 1,074 production figure is correct as well as the fact that there were only the 3 models available. Hudson was trying to offer a less expensive 8 with less trim and it still had the smaller rear windows. Apparently they scrapped that idea and just stuck with the upscale Commodore 8's and the Hornets in '51. I don't think Super 8's outsold Commodore 8's in any year they were produced. Probably wasn't such a huge price difference for a customer to order a nicer car for a few bucks more that's my guess but I don't know what the customer demographics were for people who bought straight 8's of any make.0 -

The demographics back then were better for straight 8's than for those of gay 8's.... Sorry, I just couldn't resist LOL! Niels0 -
Howdy
This deal really smells fishy. If the seller is honestly trying to sell a custom mis-match then he needs to try a more reputable firm. Click on his feedback number and look at all the negetave feedbacks! I have never seen anybody with that many and still on Ebay.

I was weirded out by all the negative "I bought the car but he had already sold it" I think the guy needs to coordinate his online and offline sales better. If its sold offline take it off ebay.....0

lil sold this super 6 Broughanm to Larry 4 or 5 years ago. he has no mechanical ability and paid big bucks to several custom shops to get it done and spent a fortune, each shop lost a bundle of his parts and he had to come back for replacements, so he bought half the car twice. these shops had no idea where the trim went thus the reason for the floating pork chops. now he wishes he would of kept it stock. its called LIVE AND LEARN, BILL ALBRIGHT0
