couple of radio questions

i took apart the radio i got last summer and had some sucess and some failure. i got all push buttons freed. i also had the turner fixed but the part that tightens on the rod that rotates to adjust amplitude was cracked and broke when i tightened it. i think i can made a replacement piece out of steel or brass and not pot metal. what i am wondering is how does this radio mount in dash? i may not have the correct radio anyway. the hole in the dash looks like the cut isn't from the factory but i don't know. all i see is two holeson the side of inner dash but i cant figure out how it mounts. my manual doesn't go over it.

Wrong radio. This is an early radio ('48-'49?). Looks like the hole you have in the dash is for a late '53-'54, the one with the rectangle buttons.0

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your dash has been cut out. The bent over pieces inside the dash should be parallel with dash front. These holes are where the knobs which control on/off and tuning.
I have added picture of an uncut dash and the radios for 51-54
The radio picture with the red background is a 51-53 OEM radio- the radio with the square buttons is a late53 all 54 and 55 radio.

thank you both. the cuts looked a little crude to have been done at the factory to me. it is in a 53 so i may look for the correct radio. i will see if i can get this one going anyway. one important question i forgot to ask is how is this radio grounded? just from the body to dash by mounting? i see the incoming fused power wire, the speaker wire with grounding coating on the wire, but no main grounding wire for radio. i am retaining 6 volt pos system for this car by the way.
i may try to bend the "ears" back around to mount since it can do no harm now. another question- how do knobs come off? just pull? they are old and bakelite and i don't want to mess them up. thanks, stacy k0 -
Wrong knobs. Hudson knobs are chrome plated and mount with a 1/16 Allen set screw. Grond is via mounting bolts and brackets.0

Oh yeah! I blew up the picture so I could see better. Now I see the "ears" that have been bent back.0

thank you hudnut52, i sent you a email. i have a spare radio in my 52. best i remember it has the chrome knobs and is in unknown working condition. or as they always say- worked the last time it was played. ha i may give it a try if this one don't work. it's not in the stars to change the dash soon but i actually have a couple of spares.
thank you Mr Cates for the pictures, they help quite a bit. the parts cars i have are a ways out of town at my folks place so i can't run out and look. i am still going to see if i can get this one to work first. thanks all.0 -
well i hooked this one up to the battery today. it kind of powered up, the lights were getting power along with several locations i checked with the tester. i never got sound to come out of the speaker though. i did notice the large paper covered condenser looking thing in upper left of 5th picture was getting pretty warm. i didn't leave it hooked up for a long time but long enough for tubes to warm up. i still have a complete radio in my 52 i might give it a try sometime. thanks for the info everyone. stacy k0

Frequently the old radio will need all the capacitors replaced as well as the vibrator. The caps go bad from age while the vibratior just goes bad
Goodluck on your mini project0
