If memory serves, I believe any 212 ci engine from 1937 thru 1947 head would be the same. The 175 ci heads will work, but you must be sure that they have not been plained because they would already give a boost in compression.

  • The 175 ci head will boost the compression to 7.25 to 1. The 212 ci cylinder head is 6.50 to 1. The difference in horsepower is between heads is about 7 HP. This is if the head has not been resurfaced. When I went to rebuild the 212 I had to cut .0028 to get it straight. So I decided not to run the 7.25 to 1 cylinder head.
  • From what I remember, the heads for the 212's were 6.0
    The 112's ('38 & '39) were 6.5 (112 was cast into the head)
The Traveler '40 was 7.0 (7.0 was cast into the head)
The Traveler '41 & '42 were 7.25 (7.25 was cast into the head)

Somewhere in this computer (but I've never been able to find) is a picture of a '37, a 112 and a Traveler 7.25 head setting next to each other. You can easily see the difference in the three heads!

I ran a 212 with a 7.25 head in my '39 for 5 years without any problems. The timing was set to factory specs and I never ran it hard.
