Try a greater than normal response. We booked 1700 room nights in 2 months. We added 3 additional hotels for more than 800 additional room nights and most of these have been booked. Please remember that the announcement of the event happened in July 2011 at the national and was advertised in the following WTN. Reservations started in August. They filled fast! Sorry you can't get into the host. How about one of the other 3 hotels we reserved. Or send Allan Minard an email. He is keeping a waiting list
  • Looks like this is shaping up to be the largest National of all times - I think it was Indy back in the 70's has been the biggest to date. It's not surprising, really. A very large proportion of club members live within 300-350 miles of Gettysburg and I also think that a lot of people are coming as a sort of memorial to the memory of John Sherlock.

  • One more comment on this post and then I'll shut my face - 1700 rooms + ? outside the host hotels = If there is at least one HET member in each room we're looking at nearly half the HET membership coming to Gettysburg!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-h

I don't think 1700 room nights is the same as 1700 rooms. That could be 500 rooms booked for 3 nights plus 200 of those rooms booked for a fourth night. Sounds like Lew probably has the breakdown, but could only be 200 rooms in the host hotel, plus 100 rooms each in adjacent hotels or something similar.
I haven't registered yet either. Will likely just be driving thru for a day and spending the nights elsewhere.

First I commented on the number of room nights booked in the first 2 months...not the total number of rooms reserved in the host complex. The idea was that after 1700 room nights were booked we booked 3 additional hotels. However 1700 decided by 5...assuming that everyone who booked in the first 2 months booked for all 5 nights.... Which is not he case.. Would be approximately 340 rooms booked. However the Wyndham and the Courtyard have 500 rooms..and we have them all. The courtyard and the Wyndham form an L on the same parking lot and are owned by the same company. They form the host complex. We are using meeting space in both hotels as well as the adjacent movie theater. The flea market and the parking lot we are using is in front of both hotels. Truthfully the 2 hotels form a great venue for the event. We are sorry that the 500 rooms were booked so far in advance but none of the prior national statistics or history could have predicted such an overwhelming response.
Just think of it....there are more than 600 rooms booked now...a bunch of people think this is a meet worth attending. I can't wait to see all my friends
So come on, register, call one of the other close by hotels and enjoy the fun

Nice figuring Alex. Now if they would only send in their registration. It costs a bunch of money to put on a meet. A lot of the expenses are related to the meet only and should be covered by the registration. So, please send in your registration. Thanks
  • I booked the hotel back last August; I sent in my meet registration back in March. I learned real quick it's best to book the hotel as early as you can - you can always call and change your reservation. I've been around long enough to remember Nashville - that was the first National that a large number of members booked on-line. There were more than a few who missed out on that fantastic :O host motel because they waited to book. Maybe they were the smart ones!!! LOL

Working on the Marlboro Nat in 2006-2007, before I moved to Memphis, gave me great insight into how the process worked. It's a lot of work and expense to put on a National and someday somebody should write up an article for the WTN detailing how's it's done.

  • Please be sure to get the word out to anyone who will listen. If you booked a room and are planning to cancel that room, please let Allan Minard know, he is in the roster - he has a running list of folks who would like one. If the room is cancelled and turned back in to the hotel, they will book it at rack rate to the motoring public and we will lose it.

    FYI
St Rod Hudson's are welcome any day at all the Nationals ive attended the past 10 - 12 yrs. If you live that close and never attended a National you should plan on attending a couple days at least.

Personally, I wonder if there will be any Drag Strip activity...

I think it needs to be mentioned that the hotels are next door to each other and not "down the road" . Arranged around a square where the cars will be parked. very pedestrian friendly.
  • What you may be thinking is there will be a meeting of the "Modified Hudson Group" at the national on one of the days. But as mentioned the modifedcars ar never shuned from a Hudson gathering. Unlike other car clubs ther is no "Points Judging". We just love to see an old Hudson drive in,
