light switch on a 46 hudson super six
I am rewiring my 46 super six coupe and want to know more about the headlight switch. It seems to be a 3 stage rotary switch.....is this for first click turn on running lights, second click turn on headlights, third click turn off lights?? What is the operation of switch? I am not sure if it is faulty but can't get lights to power up. Could faulty dimmer switch leave an open switch in the system?? thanks JR new guy

You are correct in the operation of the light switch. Also, there are many things which could keep the lamps from working. Do any of the lamps, parking, tail, dash or head, fruncion? If none of them work then the dimmer switch can not be the problem. If all the lamps but the head lamp work, then the problem could be the dimmer switch. If you think it is the dimmer, just by-pass it and see if that makes the lamps light. Let me know what happens and I'll try to help out some more0

Carefully pry open the little tabs holdning the switch together and carefully take it apart. Clean all the contacts with solvent and/or a Dremel tool brush, carefully lube ratchet and put it back together. Mine now works great.0

As Josh said do it carefully. Those small springs are easy to lose.0
