Looking for a vs57 McCulloch supercharger. Other performance parts!

Hello fellow Hudsoners! Just got the engine out of my Hash and it's time to transform this bad boy into something special. I am making some custom headers, I am having a new cam built as we speak, PORTING, etc! I have found a few dual 4-barrel intake manifolds from goldenhawks, but I'm not sure I want to spend that much yet - $600! WOW! However, I am interested in spending some good money on a vs57! If you have any comments or suggestions, lemme know! I'm looking to pass 400hp, any wisdom my friends?

Also, I have been slacking on the body parts, but if anyone has some newly chromed bumpers, and some decent turn signal housing setups, please let me know.

Sincerely,
SaveTheHash

You might want to contact Jack Vines. He hangs out at the Studebaker Drivers Forum and goes by PackardV8 he would probably be your best resource for Packard performance information: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/member.php?1388-PackardV8.

Another note, the ‘56 Studebaker Golden Hawk did not come, nor was it an option for dual quad manifolds. There were and are a number that were converted by their owners or at the dealers but it was not factory. There were also some that had the 352 Cu in replaced with the 374 Cu in. Packard V8 (something you might want to consider). These were available as Packard options only, but since many Packard/Studebaker dealers become both in ‘54/’55 the transplants in Golden Hawks was not a surprise for those that wanted the ultimate in performance.
  • Thank you very much 50C8Dan, I have learned a lot from Jack on packardinfo.com and on this website. I am not completely familiar with all 352cid info, but I have been searching for ways to make a lot more horsepower, it seems to be mostly custom work, but I am up for the challenge. If there is anymore knowledge you or your friends can throw my way, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

  • I do not skimp on body work and structural rigidity, however, I am more of a performance guy. I am really interested in getting the car to great factory order, but I cannot bring myself to make it impersonal - I am more into performance than anything and for this project, I want power. I have no problem with a complete factory rebuild, but I am interested in a retromod with something unique and maybe something not many have done with the vehicle.

I have seen some beautiful vehicles (including your 57 Hudson, Paul) that many of you have produced and I wish I had the talent to pull off that kind of interior work, but my heart is in the engine.

P.S. I am an avid motorcycle enthusiast...I save my gas $$$ that way :)

I owned a 1957 Hudson Hornet Hollywood in 1957 V-8 Brand new. Beautiful car, wished I still had it now. It would do 0-60 in 10 seconds. On the straightaway the speedo (1 time only), read 115 MPH.
That peaked my curiosity. Got 18 MPG without Air, w/air 15.
  • Beautiful vehicle. I have removed the factory air (all parts available to those who need them) and have been working on making nearly everything electrical to help with gas mileage - basing this off of my good friend Isaac Newton. Turbopackman has talked of some serious modifications; however, I am going supercharged (which he has done) which will def drain some energy, but I figure the air/fuel ratio will make up for it in the end.

    Once again, HudsonGpa....very nice.
