Can anyone ID the head on my 308 please. 308 is cast on the front and the part # is 309121. I can find numbers 309120 and 309122 in my parts book but can't find the 309121 number. Thanks, Richie.

    Richie,
It's my opinion that the casting numbers on most Hudson parts are not the same as the "Parts" number., Many times they are one or more digits different. My "opinion" on this is that Hudson set up a forgeing or casting operation, they then assigned a part number based on the final machining operation. I have no official documentation of this happening except my experience of hardly ever finding the number that is cast or forged into the part being in the parts book. Ain't this a fun hobby?

It is a fun hobby SuperDave, I wouldn't trade it for anything. A few bumps in the road won't stop me, just slow me down for a while. I love working on my Hudsons, I try to accomplish a few things every day. I put in a temp. control cable and fixed my speedometer today thanks again to Roger for supplying me with parts. I look forward every day to doing something on my Hudsons. I'm sure you feel the same way. Richie

You can expect to find all sorts of idiosyncracies on Hudsons. For instance, my '53 Hornet was built in south Africa with r.h.d. It has the single lever transmission which was supposedly superceded after the 1952 models. It also has a Cast iron head marked "H145 Use Premium fuel", which was also a special '51-'52 head. So anything goes!

I believe you are right Geoff, after reading all the comments it looks like Hudson did what it had to, to stay in business. I'm just glad I have Hudsons. Richie.
