Red Vac Switch?

OK - excuse my ignorance on this one....

What does the red VAC dial/switch located/mounted under my dashboard do?

Mine worked about 4-5 weeks ago, but has since has stopped lighting up in red when I switch it to "on". I do not see it on the wiring diagrams and I am not sure if it has something to do with my heater box or not.... which I also cannot seem to get working.... More study is needed I think during warmer weather.

Any help here?

THanks

What did it do when it worked 4-5 weeks ago ? What ever it did was what is was to do what ever that was ??? Just my 2 cents, Ron
  • I have a electric 6v vaccum pump on my old 52. Aftermarket item. You may just have the switch.
  • Ahhhhh.... now I see. I think I may also have the aftermarket VAC.... but it is no longer connected under the hood.... That explains the other mystery vacuum pump and tubing locted under the hood that is also not connected to anything... is this something I NEED to reconnect for anything? My wiper seem to work without it? I am stumped - will wait for fellow HET Hudsonites to help me with this one. Thanks for the info.

To answer KKTREB question, no you do not need the vacuum pump. All it did was make the vacuum operated wipers work better and since it is disconnected it is probability broken.

Billy - Any information on this vaccum pump? Seems to me this would be the perfect item for those that want to keep their vacuum wipers - and also want them to be dependable. Could be hooked to a toggle switch, and only turned-on when it was necessary.

My Dad bought this electric Trico vac pump many years ago at a parts store. Havent seen another one in years.
