Carb Spring

While I am at the parts desk.....

What are the specs for a carb linkage spring? Length and "spring rate" or "stretch factor" - what ever they use to rate them.

    I bought a return spring assortment from the parts store, Mr. Gasket brand I believe. Don't forget to use a double spring, just in case...

    I have used return springs just strong enough to pull carb throttle back. I tried the double spring kit once because drag raceing rules required them on the car at the track. My foot got tired trying to overcome the strong spring tension. The strong springs became very tiresome. I chucked that kit and replaced with two soft springs. A new single spring will probably last longer than I will. However, it is a safety factor to conslider. Sounds like your car is comeing along. Thanks for keeping us informed with your progress.

    Don't use a spring with too much tension, it'll wear out the bushings on the linkages on the carb. Jim K

    Thanks, but I still need to know the pull-rate and length. I have one that works, but I know it is not the OEM spring and I want to get one as close as possible.

    So how long should the spring be "at rest" while not installed? Hook-to-Hook? Thickness of metal wire to make the spring? etc.........
