I have been talking about converting my hot rod roadster pickup into an Essex pick up for about a year now. As parts became available I would purchase them--A 28 grill shell from northern Califronia, a 26 set of louvers for the grill also from California, wanted wire wheels so I found a set of 17" 1932's locally from a stash of parts, a hub cap from Montana, one from Texas another from California all 32's with the single word ESSEX on them (I need two more for a complete set.) Got a set of running board step pads off line and a winged motormeter from motormeter. So, saturday I pulled into my friends shop and cut the lower part off the grill and did a dry fit. Wow!!! Was it close, next some "cut to fit" work and a fresh coat of chrome, sandblasting and powder coat the rims for the new white wall tires, and we are on the way.... Retirement and on a fixed income... life is great.

Here are a few photos of the grill. The louvers will be black and the grill chrome. The wheels are powdercoated yellow and waiting for the new tires. I still need a few of the hubcaps (rather hard to find) if anyone has a few out there.

Got a care package from the parts house today--new running board rubber. The grill will be ready on Friday morning and we pick up the shell and headlights from the chrome shop in the morning. Headed down on monday to buy new tires and drive over to the pin stripe shop for some graphics for the tail gate... It is all rushing to a finish now--still need hubcaps.l..0

Got a lesson on chrome plating over metal that has been welded. Each place there was a weld there were big pits. Not pretty... Spoke with my long time plating folks and we do expect that it is repairable so it went back into the shop for the whole process. As soon as I get it back (3 weeks) I'll pop up a few photos. I am returning to excited......0

Got the chrome shell back from the chrome shop today. They did a fantastic job of fixing all the problems including the thin side sections that were warped from grit blast and high speed polishing wheels. I was beside myself because of how great it looks. Got word from Big O that my new tires are in. I am expecting the wheel shims any day now. Changed out the step pads and running board rubber and had a big ESSEX name put on the tailgate. I doubt that it will fool anyone but I expect that there should be a chuckle or two as folks see it....0

@Browniepetersen Hover over the thumbnails, and click "Insert in post". Not that it really matters, click the thumbnails and you see the full-size image... or, as full a size as possible within the browser.0

Do you like the kangroo with the Holden Body Works name below it? That was inspired by a firend that had a "UTE" with a kangroo in the pinstriping....0

Thanks, By the way Mike, I would love to have one of the radiator emblems with the "boy God" Icrus on it. Seen any for sale downunder lately?0

Beautiful Job Brownie. Ought to get some attention every where you go with it. Sort of resembles the 1922 Essex the factory built to haul parts, etc, around the factory.

Brownie, Geoff Clark makes a nice reproduction of the 1928 Essex Flying Man radiator Cap.0

There is a nice photo of the 22 that is shown in the History of Hudson. The one used at the Hudson factory, as a parts truck, was built from a car with parts that were available around the shop. It looks great! Hudson did send some out to be built "downunder" and there are a few still around. Pulled this one off the net.0
