green '34 Terraplane Pickup

2X green '34 Terraplane pickup on Just a Car Guy blog yesterday. Don't know why they call it garage built as it looks totally like the factory built truck I once owned. This one has a tilt steering column, modern floor shift and the wire wheels saying it is street rodded under the patina look. Anyone know the owner or what drive train it has?

    I have Press Kale's '34 as my "wallpaper"- compared the two, they sure look alike. I'm thinking the green one is a factory pickup. And I wish it was mine.

    That's my dad's old four door sedan. The engine is one of John Segady's last engines he ever built, 350 Chevy. TCI front end, nine inch rear, it should drive real nice. A long time ago some one started making the car a hot rod, did some so-so work on it and some good work on it too. They lost interest and my dad got the car. I finished up the body work and dad put the drive train together but never actually finished it. Most everything was there but not hooked up. Then Walt bought it. He also collects bikes. So he made the car a truck so he could haul his bikes around to shows. He looked at an original '34 truck and made his conversion similar to that. Not exact. But the way they would have done it back then. Start with a four door sedan, cut it off, etc.. I think he made the bed a little lower. Probably to get his bikes in easier? That rear pan that goes between the back fenders is on cars only. Which I actually happen to have made. Trucks didn't have that. There are some other little things that he didn't duplicate, probably intentionally. I think he made it "like" a '34 truck. But I don't think he was trying to fool anybody. He's had other Hudson/Terraplane trucks from that era, and he wanted another one that he could drive on the freeway and would stop fast in traffic. So it worked out perfect.

    If Bent Metal did the bodywork, I guess we can be forgiven being fooled. ;)

    Sweet!!! I havde to ask about the wheels. Wire yes, but are they a Terraplane product? What would the hub cap have looked like....?

    No I did not do the work. Not exactly. The work I did was to finish making it a complete four door "car". Pretty much ready for paint. It had some pretty heavy rust repair done to it. I was shocked to learn it had been cut in half and made a truck. The back half was good AND READY FOR BLOCKING AND SANDING!! Haha! But, I'm very glad to see the car on the road again. I think I like it better as a truck than a car.

    The wire wheels were off of my '78 Vette. If I remember right, and they were chrome. Walt had them painted and I think they look much better now! Chrome made it look like a low rider, and the rims look bigger in paint. Just better. :)

    And yes, I'd like to see a Terraplanish' center cap in there too.
