this may not be a big thrill to most folks, but i finished up putting on my back 2 door panels. man, as long as i have had this car the inside has been bare, ragged and rusty. it's finally starting to look a little better. i got several other panels from a guy in canada off ebay last week. i still need the 2 lower front door panels if anyone has or knows of any. these are not real pretty but i was really just wanting some original ones. some of these are faded blue and the car was green but it looks good enough for me. i plan on gluing the armrest soon.

Would be nice to get some pictures. And what car do you need it for. Who knows, this could be more helpful for you. Michel0

Your lucky to at least have some door panels. After 23 years I contract with a guy to do my upholstery back in November, said 6-8 weeks. Got the seats back 4 months later, a month later i get some door/ rear panels. nothing fit right. Still hasn't got them right, so here I sit with no interior in the car. Of course he threw the old panels out. I told him he should come over with the new panel to check for fit before he upholstered them, but he didn't. I don't want to but I may just put the seats in and drive it for now. Hudson meet tomorrow,
He did a good job on the seats but can't do a good job on the panels. Not a upholstery shop but some one who supposed to have over 40 years experience. I try to help the little guy and it seems every time I get it stuck in my a--. Should have driven the car with the old interior, at least I was enjoying the car.
And that is my pet peeve at the moment.

sorry i added the pictures but they showed up as red x's at the bottom. maybe scott the mod fixed them. they are for my 53 hornet. the 2 shown came from a blue 52 hornet. the front ones i got from canada are off of a 53 but a slightly different look. i do have another 52 parts car but the lower front look pretty bad and i bet they fall apart getting them off. i might try soon though.
sorry ti hear about your bad luck Mr. Spencer, that has got to be frustrating. i had several people offer to reupholster it. my taste is really changing and i get the biggest kick out of original stuff, even if it's not "purty". maybe i have watched too many episodes of american pickers on the computer.0 -
That is a job for me in the near future. Getting some doors painted then I can start to reassemble. Not sure if all door panels will be OK but they will have to do ntil finances allow their replacement!

Looks like an english wheel back there. Harbour freight. I'm guessing that because you look to be using it as an extension cord rack that you haven't had much luck with it? Or is that just temporary? If you would be interested, I have some opinions on that wheeling machine.

good eye! it is the harbor freight one. i bought it last year because they were like $100 or something on closeout. i snagged the last one. i just put it together and have not used it since! hence the 150'. of 10 gage wire. i would have been really impressed if you had noticed it was between a milling machine and a southbend lathe.
i had read a post somewhere on beefing them up, but my brain doesn't have enough room for all i read. i would be glad for any info you have on improvements to it. stacy k 0 -
Kind of unusual that you mentioned the milling machine and a Southbend Lathe, we found one of each last year, now I'm trying to learn how to use them "safely". What size is your lathe? Mine is a 16inch. Thanks, Bob P0

Ooooh! I'd love to have a lathe OR a mill. It was only a few months ago I got my first drill press. Only problem with that is, it's a bench top model and I have no bench top space. So I have to get down on one knee or sit on the floor to use it! haha!
The reason I mentioned the English wheel was because it was covered with the cord. I figured you weren't using it. When I saw them at Harbour freight, I checked it out a bit. I grabbed the top yoke in one hand, the bottom in the other and moved them in and out. ...Not good. That's going to make the upper and lower wheel jump ahead and behind each other as it gets pressure. The flex of the "C" you can get use to and deal with. But the wheels not staying directly above and below each other would make it not work. I'm not trying to say bad things about the machine at all. Just having the anvil wheels already made is worth the price you paid, and then some! For sure! But the machine was not made by some one who knows how to use one. I was going to try and give you some encouragement, if you had in fact given up on the machine. With, as you mentioned, some reinforcing of the frame the machine should work. But it ain't going to do much more than make a guy frustrated, the way it was made. Learning how to wheel shape is hard enough with a machine that works right. So that's all I wanted to say. Don't give up on the machine, but the upper and lower wheels need to stay in alignment AND directly over each other. They need to roll on the same path or it will leave a tiny pucker at the end of each track change. And if they are not directly over each other the pressure is going to vary wildly and unpredicably as they pass each other and become closer and farther apart. It's just going to be a mess without some fixin'. ...I look forward to seeing how you fix it. I'd bet the "beefing up", will work just fine.

My son showed me a cheap one where the wheels themselver were not truely round. By spinning the wheels I could see them move up and down.

I boxed mine in with 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" square steel tube.It strengthened it a great deal to the point that the rollers do not move and remain one above the other. I also took the crank off and put an old steering wheel that I had laying around and placed an old brass handel on the tension adjustment that makes it a lot easier to move the roller up and down.
Gave it a paint job and Bob's your uncle0
